Why the change in art style in City Fall?
I'm only up to issue #13 of the IDW TMNT series, but seeing the covers to City Fall, it seems like a vastly different art style and character design. Could someone quickly explain that?
Thanks. |
Next time just ask a mod to move your thread. Considering that the other one got a bunch of replies & stuff.

The artists changed after Dan Duncan left after #12. Since then they cycle through artists for each arc.
|
Plus, some artists get requests from other companies to do some work for their comics for a bit.
For example, after Ben Bates did the Neutrino arc, he went back to Archie to pencil the last part of the Sonic/Mega Man crossover. Which I like better than his Turtles personally, but that's just me. |
I'll just copy and paste what I wrote in the other thread, just in case it gets deleted or hasn't been seen.

Did Nick really ask for those changes to make them look like the cartoon? Like Don missing a tooth and Mike being shorter? And April wearing similar clothes to her Nick counterpart?
|
The only thing he's explicitly stated was a change requested by Nick was the height of the turtles. He wanted them shorter like the Mirage turtles, but he ended up compromising. The Nick cartoon influences sound like Mateus' only inspiration. I don't see what Nick would have to gain in trying to attract Nick cartoon fans to a comic that isn't like the cartoon. Especially when they have an actual spin-off series now.

That's pretty interesting, thank you. Does the writing stay the same?

Yeah, Nick specifically DIDN'T want us to adopt a more toon-centric look for the IDW core book. There were various compromises, which is what you see in Mateus' current Turtles.

I think the art style changed a bit in the last issue. The Turtles heads are drawn almost like a dome.
