Paramount Moves ‘TMNT’ To August 8, 2014
Sorry, folks... It's true.
Paramount Pictures has split up two movies that figure to pack a merchandising punch. The studio just moved from June 6, 2014 to August 8 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Nickelodeon Movies/Platinum Dunes franchise re-launch. Why the shell game that moves the picture into the back end of the summer? It’s because Paramount has its Transformers movie slated for June 27. That will likely move to June 25 as traditionally the studio has opened these Michael Bay films on the Wednesday of that week. Both of these have involved campaigns and a big merchandising component, and it was thought the studio would be better off spacing the two toy-tied films further apart than the 19 days it was looking at in the original scheduling configuration. http://www.deadline.com/2013/08/para...august-8-2014/ |
Oh, no. Two months. What a nightmare.

Pushing the date back is for the better. Having Transformers 4 and TMNT close together is too risky. And both those films need plenty of time to make a lot of money, Which they will do anyways. The film will open about a week after Guardians of the Galaxy.

August has never been a big blockbuster month. Strange choice.

I wish they could postpone the move indefinitely. I'd rather this movie never see the light of day than the potential damage to the brand it could cause.

Fine with me. It would be pretty stupid to have them competing considering bay is involved with both. Best to maximize your potential.
Sometime in the summer I think we should do a contest to guess the RT score for TMNT & transformers. I wonder which will be lower :tlol: |
Smart. They were sandwiched in the previous spot and would've been lost in the shuffle.

They obviously don't have much confidence in the movie.

It’s not up against anything that week, which is good. In its original release date it was up against a Tom Cruise sci-fi film, which would have more than likely stole the number one spot from it. Now it opens a week after Guardians of the Galaxy. For now, it’s difficult to decipher whether this is a good move or not. Guardians has a lot going for it, but it also has a steep hill to climb. It’s all about the marketing for that one, as it is a completely unknown property to the masses. As for TMNT, for the first weekend at least, the brand name will be enough to sell it. But yeah, it will be interesting to see how this develops.
When more info and footage comes out for both films it will be intriguing to see whether Disney and Paramount both stay put, or whether one will get cold feet and move yet again. Don’t forget, way back when, Guardians of the Galaxy was actually scheduled to go up against TMNT when it was going to be released in May. Disney seemed to get cold feet then. It’s funny how their paths seem to be crossing yet again. |

Guardians of the Galaxy will have Disney/Marvel promoting the hell out of it to make sure its a success. It may not be a traditional superhero movie, but it works for the sci-fi crowd very easily.
The TMNT movie feels more like an afterthought, like they're just trying to get it out there to finish the deal they made before Viacom got the license. |

I don't even get what Viacom hopes to accomplish with this movie. Is it really going to make TMNT more known to the masses?
|
I wonder if this move also means... That the studio wants to convert it to 3D?
