Retro-mutagen: What will come of it?

Okay we know Donnie is going to develop retro-mutagen in the coming episodes.

This is a concept that was used before particularly in the OT series episode "Splinter No More" Where Donatello is offers to create a way to restore Master Splinter to being human once more. But the effects only last about an hour or so.

So what sort of good can come from Donatello creating the retro mutagen? Also what consequences will come from it?

Somethings I can see is Donatello offering to restore Splinter's humanity with it. After all he's heard his father mourn his lost humanity often enough, why not do something selfless and offer that sense of freedom to his father.

However unlike the OT Splinter who was welcoming of that opportunity. I can see Splinter being firmly against it and telling Donatello to never make such a dangerous offer ever again. He later approaches Donatello and tells his that while he did appreciate his thoughtfulness. But he has grown to have sense of peace with his rodent form and feels his place is no longer in the world of men, but with his sons.

As for consequences I can see Karai becoming interested in it, for the obvious reasons of using it against the Turtles and Splinter... by using it as a bated carrot for anyone who has been affected by the mutagen.

Well, yes, I can see this happening with Splinter too and Splinter feeling conflicted on wanting to return to his original state but feeling that he has a place with his sons. Of course, the good would be that Don would find a cure for Kirby and possibly Timothy himself if that's possible. The other consequence is not only Karai getting ahold of it but possibly Shredder finding it and using it against the Turtles as well, not to mention the Kraang somehow acquiring it. So, yeah, some good can come from this and some bad can too. We'll just have to see how this plays out and how Don makes it.

I really hope they use that line somewhere.

i think the obvious use of this retro mutagen would be restoring mr o'neil, and maybe even timothy. and could definitely see it being used by the foot and kraang against the turtles

If anyone does, Donnie better use it.

If it's created at all, I think it will only exist just long enough to for it to cure Kirby before being made unusable. Given how mutants have become the series' bread and butter when it comes to villains, I don't see the writers giving the turtles that big an out, even if turning mutants back into their core selves turns out to be harder here than it is typically portrayed.

What if they un-mutate the turtles for an episode, and have them come back at the end? That would be cool!

FoxZerro 10-20-2013 07:28 PM

I honestly believe that there will only be a finite amount of the retro-mutagen and that it will all be used up in an epic mutant rampage in the season 2 finale. It would be a good reason why so many of the humans who have been effected are unable to get restored back to human form.

Not to mention a mutant outbreak would be the perfect opportunity to introduce the ooze launching backpacks from the you line into the show as a means of administering to the mutants while keeping the turtles out of harms way.

That being said I think having Splinter console Donatello after he realizes he's unable to create the retro-mutagen again with what has already been said above would be a great fatherly moment for him.

That sounds like the plot of 70% of TMNT fanfiction. I'm sure that episode would include a set of recolored girl turtles.

Just an idea. :tgrumble:

Will most likely cure Kirby and/or Timothy. Hopefully.

The retro mutagen thing isn't new. OT had that for a few episodes (Splinter returned briefly as a human, April became a mutant fish but she got cured in the end) and in Archie (where April became a mutant turtle, and also got herself a cure).

To be fair though, April's fish mutation was the cause of genetic manipulation not mutagen and was reversed using the same device created by Dr. Polidorius which transformed her in the first place

They could let the 80's turtles go after the mutagen in order to restore the 2012 tmnt so they could get some more screen time some day. Granted this will probably never happen but it'd be cool.

I like the idea of Karai dangling the retro mutagen in front of other villains who have been mutated. Spider Bytez, Snakeweed, Mutagen Man if he's ever capable of rational thought. I'd like a modern day Night of The Rogues episode. As Shredder and Krang would say,"So sue me!"
