Things that confuse you

Basically, what things don't you understand?

Blossombrooks 11-09-2013 02:07 PM

Maths, specifically well...all of it. My brain just isn't wired that way. I have to do a certain amount in my job but its never going to come easy. I want to understand it, I just can't.

I'm good with more basic math, but am at sea if I try calculus or anything more advanced.

Also most legal documents.

Mzx10484 11-09-2013 03:34 PM

Mental arithmetic confuses me, indeed. :ohwell:

BubblyShell22 11-09-2013 05:39 PM

Math for sure. The basic stuff I can do, but give me Statistics and I'm stuck. I always didn't understand why I had to have Statistics for a requirement. I was an English major. Since when the hell am I ever going to use Statistics in my life? Never. So glad I got rid of that though.

I think history confuses me. I mean I can get a grasp of it and pass the tests, but I don't understand why I need to know about half of what happened in the past. Well it could be because I don't care, but still... I do wonder what's the purpose of it.

I can agree with that. I like to think my English is pretty alright, but then I get humbled when I read "legalese".

CyberCubed 11-09-2013 06:12 PM

Any advanced computer or math stuff. But I imagine this is the same for everyone unless they major in Computer Science.

Discogod 11-10-2013 07:46 AM

Women, in general.

BubblyShell22 11-10-2013 09:09 AM

Ah, yes, history was also one subject I hated. I could care less about some of the stuff that happened in the past, though I can understand why we need to know about some of it as it is important to know how our country evolved.

The reason to learn history, if nothing else, is to know how past political and social situations worked out or didn't, and how not to repeat the same mistakes.

Math. The whole unit i'm doing in school right now is algebra and i'm pretty sure the only reason i'm maintaining a C right now is completion grades on my homework, since I keep bombing my tests.

BubblyShell22 11-10-2013 01:10 PM

Yeah, that's how I passed Statistics with the quizzes since I bombed the tests all the time. But I luckily had a good tutor and was able to to do the quizzes because I got tutored before I took the quizzes, so I was able to remember what to do.

That, and because history is essentially the building-blocks to who we are as people today. Millions of people have lived before us, they weren't just sitting around on their bums doing nothing. Everything we have and do today is a direct reflection of how far we have come, and it's important to not only understand why that is, but to respect and honor those in the past who have contributed to making HUGE, positive changes in the world over. As mentioned, politics and social situations, but also science and the arts and everything in between, there has been an immeasurable amount of information discovered in even just the past few hundred years, let alone how long humans have actually even been around. And that's just human history. The planet itself was going through amazing changes long before we were around and it will continue to do so long after we're gone, and by studying its history we're arming ourselves with extremely important knowledge that will undoubtedly be useful in the future.

So yes. It's important to learn history and should very much be cared about.

And to answer the actual OP, I'll jump on the math wagon. I understand why it's so important, but like many, the actual grasping of formulas and numbers is extremely difficult for me.

Would you believe that Albert Einstein's greatest talent, certainly his most important one in his research, was statistics? Yes, that was how he was able to come up with his Theory of Relativity. Every biography I've seen of him has said this.

And BTW, contrary to popular myth, he always did very well in school. The "he got poor grades" myth came from misinterpretation of the grading system of the time.

BubblyShell22 11-10-2013 05:56 PM

So? I'm not good at it, and I see no reason why the hell someone like me would use that crap in my life when I'm an English major. It's just pointless and I hate it.

Prowler 11-11-2013 12:08 PM

I guess advanced math and physics. Surprised that a lot of people seem to struggle at stats. I honestly found stats to be fairly easy, and math has always been my worst subject alongside physics.

BubblyShell22 11-11-2013 04:13 PM

Well, I have a learning disability in math, so that's why it was tough for me. Most of math was hard for me to grasp because of this.

CyberCubed 11-11-2013 05:36 PM

History is great because it's like a story. Anyone who likes reading or watching TV should like history.

It's just amazing to think what was going on in all these different countries from the time of the caveman until now. History is very important.

Icebot 11-11-2013 05:45 PM

Asking questions. Sometimes it's a tough or confusing decision if I should ask questions or not.
