Old Hob origin?

Seriously... Am I the only one that immediately thought of Old Hob when that cat got hit with that mutagen acid by Mutagen Man?

The evil look, frayed ears, the scar, the bandages on the tail...
I think that cat model is a bit too thought out and detailed for a stray animal extra that's in the show for two seconds. I mean- human extra models like pedestrians on the show aren't as detailed as that cat... The two cops that have a recurring role aren't as detailed. Doesn't it look like too much effort went into this cat?
Unless that cat model will be used again in some flashback scene for Old Hob an its look will resemble what he looks like in his mutated form...

Too farfetched? Time will tell I guess...

No chance in hell. IDW isn't allowed to use Nick characters in their book because Nick wants to keep its version of the turtles unique, so I HIGHLY doubt they'd let IDW characters bleed into their cartoon. Mind you I'd be all for it, I wish the two would mix it up at least a little.

He certainly reminds me of Old Hob. I wouldn't mind if some IDW characters made it into the Nick toon. Or Archie/2k3 for that matter.

I noted that as well and talked to my brother about that just yesterday...
maybe..we'll see...the fact that its TAIL was splashed with the mutagen though could of course also lead us to the being that later fully mutates with a portion of ice cream...

Jester 11-12-2013 05:28 AM

Maybe Scratch... :P

Shark_Blade 11-12-2013 07:35 AM

But does the mutagen acid mutates people/animal?

Mikey and Raph were exposed to acid when MM grabbed them both, squeezing them hard (you can see the burnt smoke effect around them too) but nothing happened to them.

So maybe the cat won't mutate too.

I get that IDW can't use characters created for the Nick show for the reasons you specified, but I don't think it necessarily works the other way 'round.
I always thought Nick could use or adapt any character already established in prior TMNT incarnations... Like the Nick versions of Wingnut or Traag for example.
Spoiler:
And apparently Slash soon.

Unless it's a different story for characters created especially for the IDW comics. I'm not exactly an expert on legal arrangements between Nick and IDW. ;)

That's possible too... But in any case we ain't seen the last of that cat! :)

I figure there is a difference between the liquid mutagen acid Timothy deliberately squirted around and the mutagen or substance forming his limbs. Maybe the latter only burns. Or maybe the limbs' forms are held together by some sort of hardened membrane... That way mikey and Raph weren't directly in contact with the mutagen when they were squeezed.

Or maybe the acid doesn't do anything to you if you're already a mutant.

SO THERE! :p

I never said Nick couldn't use them, they obviously own these characters outright. But my point still stands, they clearly don't want these universes mixing. Having one permitted to cross over but not the other would make no sense whatsoever.

I hear ya. Maybe crossovers between IDW and the Nick show aren't such a good idea.
Maybe that Ice Cream Kitty is a safer guess then...
Or maybe it'll turn out to be Nick's version of scratch like Jester suggested. ;)

Anyway- that cat's way too well designed and evil looking to be just a three second extra.

BubblyShell22 11-12-2013 04:30 PM

I'm definitely guessing that it may eventually be ICK.

CyberCubed 11-12-2013 07:43 PM

I just hope to god we don't get another unique mutant cat character. How many mutant cats do we need?

Megchan 11-12-2013 08:08 PM

I'll admit the cat does remind me of Old Hub, but if anything it's probably just a shout out to him. And about the cat becoming ICK, I don't know. Isn't ICK supposedly April's cat? I wouldn't expect her cat to be so...raggedy. :/

But then again maybe this is her cat. If it's hang around her home, she could be feeding the poor thing. God, knows I have a few feral cats hanging around my place since I feed them.

I dunno... ICK looked kinda different.....and cuter.
I mean he didn't look like he had scars and a bitten ear XD
(but he was in ice cream form when I saw him...)

victory_angel 11-12-2013 10:05 PM

It could be Hallocat (AKA Scratch). However they are using the plot of Casey being tutored by April in the show which is something that's going on with the IDW Casey. So it could be possible it could be "Old Hob". We will have to wait and see....though something tells me if we see this cat getting mutated. We will forget that he was seen as early as episode 4 of this season.

Saying this particular cat is going to be going to mutated at this point will be like saying: We are going to have the Good Genes Arc because of the exact moment in Follow the Leader, Leo says "Some random Joe gets mutated." the entire short is focused on Donnie looking for the Mutagen.

Where did you read or heard that Ice Cream Kitty is suppose to be April's cat ?
