favorite Christmas/birthday/other gifts received over the years?
Since the holidays are upon us, I was inspired to create a thread in which dromers can share memories of that be all and end all favorite toy, book, game console, etc received during special occasions. I'm a sap and love the holidays, so there you go. And if giving gifts rather than receiving them brings you joy, share that experience instead or both. If there's already a thread devoted to this topic, mods feel free to delete this and point me to it! I'll share mine later since I'm in the middle of preparing chili on a frigid December evening as I write this.

What a coincidence! I just had chili!
I would say my favorite gifts I have ever received on Christmas is a toy Technodrome, Donkey Kong on Gameboy (94), a Nintendo 64 console. |
One of my favorite gifts i ever got was a giant spiderman figure, that had 67 points of articulation.
There is actually a story behind it: It was coming up to Christmas time in 2004. I had caught some kind of illness, i was incredibly sick. I went downstairs and started to open my Christmas presents. The last one i opened was the giant spiderman figure. I was very happy to get this. I think my dad was more happy than i was. He makes models for a living and he found the articulation to be very impressive, and he even took it to work and showed it around. Great figure that. A picture of one i found on the internet is here: http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o...y-18inch-2.gif |

- full set of Stephen King's The Dark Tower books in hardcover, which i quickly devoured through the following January!
- Nice hardcover set of Lord of the Rings (about two years before the films came out, so I was well prepared! loved em!) - (as a kid) TMNT toys obviously, one year I got a box with like 20 figures in it and the turtle lair playset, it was magic! |
My greatest christmas present of all time is still the SUPER NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM, my present about 20 years ago !! Adventurous emotions in my childhood !!

My screenreader doesn't seem to want to let me play with multiquote so I'll have to do it as follows.
Whatswiththeheadbands: Yeah, I remember a Christmas in 96 where I got nothing but Spider-Man figures. They were from the animated series Fox Kids had aired at the time and some of them were extremely difficult for relatives to come by. That giant Spider-Man sounds pretty sweet. I think one of my favorite figs I had was this fusion of Spidy and Hobgoblin called Spidergoblin. He wasn't in any episodes I can remember but the story behind him seemed to be something about Spidy and HG fusing together as a result of being caught in a time dilation excelerator which played a pretty big role in one of the later seasons. They would fight for control of the main body within the mind of the creature they inhabited. Zulithe: I got the first 4 Dark Tower books for a birthday back in 98, I think. So I had to wait several years before Wolves of The Cala as well as the final two! That was so hard to do. I love Stephen King and have been a pretty big fan ever since I read Skeleton Crew at age 12 or so. The latter was also a birthday present. MZX: The SNES is also way up there on memorable Christmas presents of mine. I got mine with MK II and Power Rangers Fighting Edition at the end of 95. Needless to say TMNT toys were usually on my receiving end as well. |
Neither my birthday or Christmas I got this gift.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...mahaSA1100.jpg I got this in the summer of 1991 in a bizarre way. I served federal jury duty for 14 days, which paid $40 a day. My local music store in Houston always had a coupon in the Yellow Pages for 20% off any guitar/amp. The guitar was $700, with the coupon was $560 + tax = $586. So I bought this guitar for $26. Why Yamaha? Because Scott Baio once played that brand. |
Thought this didn't happen on Christmas I'll share it anyway. About a year ago I ordered a My Little Pony doll from one of the old generations online (before my Paypal started screwing up and locking me out of my account :x ) I waited a couple of days and recieved her on New Years Day, which was definetly a great start to the new year! :D

TMNT toys, I guess. As a kid my Christmases were 80% turtle figures, what a glorious time.
Uhhh, I dunno, outside of that, I guess it would be my old Boss BR-600 Digital Multitrack Recorder. It's basically a recording studio on the go. You can lay down tracks, add effects, mix, & render them all in one shot. Great quality sound. It's what really jump started me to make my own music. I was finally able to mess around and record my ideas, eventually fully realizing them as whole songs. I hardly touch it anymore as I've got a home studio of sorts, among other means, but it's still a treasure and holds a lot of sentimental value. |
Marvel Legends Nightcrawler - Got me interested in collecting figures and comics.
Doctor Who 2005 Series/Season 1 DVD - Made me a fan of Doctor Who. |

In that case, the Game Boy I got for Christmas in 1990 might also be up there. Although for my 19th birthday in 1999, I got myself an atomic purple Game Boy Color. Hm. All three, a year after they came out. |
Money, so I can get my own crap myself instead of opening 5 Old Spice gift sets every damn year.
