Expectations for TMNT Franchise In 2014
We enter 2014 with the fifth movie coming out in late summer and in the second season of Nickeldon's CGI animated series with IDW 29 issues into its impressive run with an usuaul second bok each month. It is also the 30th anniversary year. It was a fun ride during the 25th anniversary and all the little promotions. I would expect something out of Viacom like Mirage did, maybe bigger maybe smaller. What do you all hope for the frnachise in the coming year ahead?
|
I'm hoping we get a Turtle Con. The TMNT have become so popular, they deserve their own convention.:tcool:
|
I know it's rarely done these days, but I'd love for the turtles to get their own cereal like they had in the early 90's. I'm also expecting amazing figures based on the new movie. And I'd like a Nick TMNT tv movie of some sort.
|
First, I hope the new movie is good. Second, I hope it is successful enough to warrant more TMNT on the big screen.
Regarding the Nick show, I hope we get more two part (or more) episodes. I also hope they start airing the new episodes on a schedule that makes sense. I don't want them to burn through 20 episodes in a row but I also don't want recurring two month breaks. I wish they would air one season from Septmber to June. |
I hope we get more good episodes for the Nick show and that the new movie isn't a flop (though I'm reserving judgment, I'm not getting my hopes up too high on this front).
|
It would be nice for an Eastman/Laird written episode. It'd also be cool for a finish to the mirage comics. Maybe, just maybe we will get a complete reunion for classic TMNT, 2k3 TMNT, Mirage TMNT, IDW TMNT and 2k12 TMNT in Turtles Forever II:tparty::tparty::tparty:

I hope there is more development for all the Turtles. So far Donnie's getting the majority of the development which is good since it feels like his character is getting set up for a lot of **** that will be coming down the sewer pipe.
But more development in the other turtles and their relationships with each other would be nice. |
I don't think too much will change. I imagine we'll get plenty of awesome stuff as we have been these last 2 years, with both the animated series & IDW comics getting better and better. I just hope that we get a lot of amazing 30th anniversary stuff, especially if it's a long overdue Eastman & Laird collaboration or Mirage animated special. We need both of those baaaaaaaaad. Maybe after the Henson TMNT figures kick off we can get another set of comic or Next Mutation figures or something by the years end. Looking forward to the movie, I know no matter what it's gonna be a treat for the eyes. Unlike many other TMNT fans I find every version redeemable. So even if the consensus is that it sucks, I'll enjoy it one way or another.

I just want to see more random tmnt branded stuff hit the stores.

Realistic hopes for 2014
A good movie. Sure I'd prefer it to be Mirage based but I've made my peace with it being primarily OT inspired. I'm hoping this will be the movie I always wanted as a kid. Nick and IDW to keep doing what they're doing. Even if the movie doesn't meet expectations at least I know I can count on these two to be consistently excellent. Playmates to complete the core cast of Classics figures (Shredder, Splinter, April, Krang and Foot Soldier). Dreams for 2014 30th anniversary reunion of Eastman and Laird (how could this not be top of any comic fan's list?) Peter Laird to finish Vol. 4 (or at least give his outlines to Jim Lawson and allow him to finish it) Playmates to do comic style TMNT in the Classics line (based on Eastman and Laird's later issues, Leo/10/11). And yeah, I'd take a set of Vol. 3 and Next Mutation TMNT as well. |
Like most here I'm hoping they will release lots of 30th Anniversary branded merch that will be fun to collect. I also hope they continue to make the core characters in the Classics line. A Krang would be epic!
I'm looking forward to the new movie, however it turns out. I've not ever found a Bay movie unwatchable, so I'm going into this one knowing its a Hollywood action movie with TMNT themes... lol. I'm wondering if the Nick show season 2 will be released in the same way as Season 1- 3 different parts (the last a 2 disc set) or if they'll wait until the end and give us a Season 2 box set? No matter what's in store for us I definitely think it will be the year of the TURTLE! With something out there for every turtle fan. I'm very excited!:tgrin::tgrin::tgrin: |
The Nicktoon will improve. The IDW comic will stay the way it is now.
The movie will be terrible. |
-Something special for the 30th Anniversery
-Nick gets renewed for more seasons -Season 2 ends with an amazing episode -The movie doesn't suck -Idw gets even better Those aren't high expectations, but I'd love if some of them come true. |
In general, I expect 2014 to be the make it or break it year for this era in terms of reaching 1990-91 levels of popularity, powered of course by the Paramount movie. After The Super Bowl weekend will kick off the After the City Fall arc ends in March, expect the IDW comic to take a bit of a back seat to the movie, though of course we'll get the adaption, and hopefully some prequel or sequel comics to tie-in, and I hope there's a good 30th anniversary special, given that the comics were what got the brand started. In addition to any Peter Laird wishes for a reunion, have any classic Mirage/Archie artists make an issue/special.
On the Nickelodeon universe, expect Season 2 to get better with the Casey/April/Donny feud, the continuing battle to capture the mutagen cannisters, and climaxing with a great finale, even better than Season 1 to be released around the time of the movie. The reunion episode with the 1987 Turtles will be brief, but it will be a nice cameo. There will be a video game based on the movie coming out this fall on XBOX One/PS4/Wii U that will provide a variety of gameplay that makes it the best Turtles game ever and may actually work to the benefit of the film by generating strong home video/streaming sales come the holidays. As for merchandise, expect the usual third-party mix, building upon the great variety released in 2012 and 2013, not unlike what was happening in the very early 90s. Playmates should provide us excitement at the Toyfair with a mix of new Nick figures, vehicles, specialty variants, and of course movie figures. While to veteran fans it will seem like a re-run, it will delight the kids who never had a chance to experience the first wave of Turtlemania. The trailer and previews will be crucial to the momentum upon the movie's release and to a lesser degree the cartoon. But when the slew of media reviews come out along with fan reaction, it will dictate how much steam the TMNT brand really has. The best case scenerio is a worldwide smash grossing over $250 million that leads to more Nickelodeon seasons, a sequel, heavy merchandise sales, and of course getting the feeling that the TMNT brand has made it to Batman/Superman-level status that will be remembered for generations. Unfortunately, a lot could go wrong, most likely related to the movie that can kill this era and ultimately shy away fans. Its important for the creators and presenters to be truthful, be enthusiastic, and explain why we should see the new movies, new comics, and hopefully new games. To me 2014 is the "anything is possible" year for this era, so enjoy the ride fans! |
I really just hope that the movie is good, and does well. I hope it's something fans old and new can enjoy.
|
My hopes for the TMNT franchise in 2014 are very different from what I actually expect to see in it.
|
I'm hoping the movie will be a pleasant surprise like the first Transformers.
Other than that I'm looking forward to good comics, and it'd be cool to see April and Shredder added to the classic action figure line. |
I think Season 2 of the Nick show will surpass the first. IDW will remain roughly the same as it is now.
toyline is going to hell |
2014 will be a historic year for TMNT, while it wont reach 1990 era status, it will be the 2nd coming of the turtles....
