Which would have hurt the franchise more?

There is an awful lot of negative vibe about the upcoming film, as there was with the proposal of the 4th film. Except this one is actually being made. Which film do you think would have hurt the franchise more? And do you think I the 4th film had gone through would we even be at this point right now? With 4kids being an excellent series, and the 'TMNT' movie that was made.

Honestly, I think the fourth film would have hurt the franchise more than this film will. As much as I am not looking forward to seeing the Platinum Dunes version of the Turtles, we have to face facts, Platinum Dunes sells tickets. I mean, look at the Transformers movies, they are terrible renditions of the source material, but they haven't hurt the franchise as a whole. I suspect that there will be a similar outcome with the turtle movie. The die hard fans will hate it, but the casuals and some new comers will be entertained and will provide enough revenue for sequels to be made. Even if it tanks it is difficult for one movie to kill a franchise that exists in so many other iterations; (tv, comics, kid's books, etc.) though is not impossible. Either way, we will see what the final outcome is in due time.

Yeah, The Next Mutation movie was at a time where there was NOTHING going on in the franchise. We still have the Nick show and the IDW book to fall back on if the PDs movie is a stink-burger.

Yeah

I tend to agree that the 4th would hurt worse but it could be debated. Anything that stops the 4kids version from happening I'm against.

Well I'm 26 I know my generation will always keep the franchise afloat in some form wither its comics, shows, etc. I have multiple nephews and they are eating up the nick series. PD's movie will in no way mess up the franchise only help, I promise you that.

turtlefanforever 01-22-2014 10:35 AM

Why is that ?

I think it'll stay afloat too though. But through cinema and comics.

It's the difference between a black eye and a bullet to the head.

Wouldn't do that extreme. But you still didn't say which one

The 4th movie with Kirby the new Turtle and Kevin's wife would have truly been the bullet to the brain. TMNT as a larger-scale property would have been left toxic to financiers for quite some time, perhaps indefinitely.

The new movie is just going to be a black eye. With the Nicktoon thriving it won't be hard for the masses to largely ignore it.

turtlefanforever 01-22-2014 11:45 AM

Or

The other way around

turtlefanforever 01-22-2014 12:02 PM

But

Nonetheless I believe the comics would keep going

Of course. But we're talking about what would torpedo the franchise from continuing to operate at the "heights" it is right now, or retard it from such going forward.

If the Bay film drops like a goose egg, it'll damage things... but nowhere near as badly as things would've been damaged if the Kirby'n Venus movie had been wrought on us at the time it would've been.

Keep getting that post count up with more of those insightful 5 word posts.

Yeah but

Regardless if the 4th went forward or not people would still buy comics.

The thing about this new movie that worries me is that if it succeeds, that the higher ups might force the movie-like designs to be placed into future TMNT stuff. The cartoon designs might change just like they did with both the 80s and the 2003 series in their final seasons did.

Look at Transformers in how everything new cartoon wise has to have some resemblance to the live action movies now. Even in the comics for a time they had very 'movie-like' appearances.

Well

I would fully support the change of the 2012 turtles, I would not buy any merch from this movie, or comics with turtles changed to look like these movie ones.
