NASCAR is ticking me off
Screw Brian France and all the people that make decisions at NASCAR. This new points system is even worse than the Chase. They "listened to what the fans want", I want to know what fans they talked to because I haven't heard anybody in favor of it.
Just one win basically gets you into the Chase, which is total bull because you can have somebody like Marcos Ambrose win a road course race have a chance to win the title despite stinking it up in the 25 other races before the Chase. Every 3 races in the Chase, points are reset and 4 drivers are eliminated. All leading up to 4 drivers eligible to win the title at Homestead, with the highest finisher being declared "Champion." Theoretically in this system, a driver could win the first 35 races of the year, finish 2nd at Homestead, and not be Champion. Winner take all is not the way to go in auto racing. It should be the best driver over the course of the season. NASCAR shouldn't makeup a gimmick to try to "increase interest". With a sport like NASCAR, you are either a fan or find it boring, there's not really much in-between. There is absolutely no way this system increases the fan base at all, especially considering that the season finale is during football season. I am going to watch only because I love NASCAR. I will still be doing what many others have done since the Chase began and that is to keep up with who the true full-season champion should be. I hate you NASCAR officials for continuously finding ways to try to ruin my favorite sport. |
That sounds horrid.... what was wrong with the old way???

I am shocked that NASCAR has allowed all the lower-tier series (Nationwide, Trucks, East, West series) to keep the pre-Chase format of counting the whole year without a points reset to declare their champion. I am hopeful, though not optimistic, that eventually NASCAR will see the error of their ways and go back to having the championship be awarded to the best driver over the course of the ENTIRE season and not some publicity stunt mess like the Chase. |

I've never really been interested in NASCAR. But i can see why that would annoy you.

I don't get why they feel the need to change. NASCAR is the type of thing that you are either going to watch it every week or not watch at all. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of in between. The people calling for changes to the points or to decrease the length of races are the ones not watching and have no business trying to make changes to something they don't care about. It would be like me making suggestions about Soccer.

I only watched NASCAR for Jeff Gordon and shortly after Dale Earnheart Sr. died, I didn't watch it as religiously like I did in the late '90s/early '00s. I miss the pre-chase format when the whole season mattered before the change made the fall portion of the season with 10 contenders with 33 puppets just racing for pride. Plus with only two road courses, its gets boring racing around the same similar ovals all the time. That's why I prefer Indycar and Formula One. I'll admit to enjoying a PC game back in the '90s that included real NASCAR drivers that briefly got me interested in this.
