How to identify NECA bootlegs?
Ran into the NECA turtles at my local comic shop here are some details:
- Red bandanas - Tube Packages - $29.99 for each or $115 for the set - The owner of the store mentioned that he had a supplier who came across a couple of sets I didn't take any pics. but I'm considering jumping on these because of the price point. Anything I should look out for? (I realize that theres a bootleg thread but felt that it would be more recognized on the main page) |
Hmmm clam shells? Not tube packaging, you sure?
I don't recall hearing any reports of bootlegs in clam shell packaging. Do they come with all shown here: http://www.actionfigurefury.com/wp-c...-packaging.png if so, buy them. Even if they are bootlegs (doubt it, if they look like the above) you are getting a very good deal. You need to get back to that shop ASAP cause I don't think they will stay around long at that price. |

Oh okay so they ARE tube packaging.
I would say probability of them being bootleg is pretty high but if you found them in the USA and at that lowish price it is POSSIBLE they are real. However, if they are legit from NECA it's a better deal, though not a steal. There are MANY guides for identifying the bootlegs. Here is one, study it carefully then go back to the store and look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxpU7SY9nj4 Most people seem to agree that if you want an inexpensive set of these NECA turtles, the bootlegs are worth the price. BUT... I would try to find a deal to get them $20 each or less (in a set, so under $80) If you look on ebay now you can find a set of all 4 in tube packaging for under $70 with FREE SHIPPING |

Sorry, see my re-edited post... I don't think you should buy the set of four for $115 *if* you study them and determine you think they are bootleg.
if you are reasonably or positively sure they are NOT bootleg I'd buy them for $115... UNLESS... you think you'd rather just spend a little more and invest in the clamshell versions which come with more accessories. But you could spend over $300 for those... |
going to have to inspect them like this next time I go in:

You might want to consider that these things have been out of production for quite a few years now. So its probably kinda sketchy for a supplier to come across a few sets...unless its a few sets that was bootlegged in China:D

its a reputable store though, so who knows maybe they don't even know that they're bootlegs... |

See you ain't directly asking if theyre fake or real and your aren't directly insulting him. But at the same time your informing him you know fakes exist. Gauge reaction. Go from there. Cowabunga mafucca! |
I wouldn't ask the owner jack, doesn't matter how friendly they are they could have been duped and not even know they are bootlegs.
Just trust your own opinion. Research carefully about the bootlegs, there are tons of videos and articles about these NECA turtle bootlegs. Then compare with your own eyes. Operate under the assumption that they are probably bootlegs unless the figures themselves convince you. |
