For those in NC or nearby states, GREAT NEWS!

I was checking the guest list for this years Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC and saw some awesome news!
Kevin Eastman is on the guest list! Looks like I will have to pony up some cash for a commission!!

I don't think he's taken commissions in years, man.

ska_lives 02-19-2014 10:23 PM

We shall see. Ive not seen one guest at heroes yet who doesnt. First time for everything though.

According to a recent Facebook post, he is now doing sketches for $50. But these would be his standard convention sketch, not a full-out commission.

He's going to be at a show in Sacramento in a couple weeks that I think I'm going to make the drive to. He also mentioned having prints and original art available, so I'm interested to see what he brings with. (I just got a new job, so I might have to treat myself. :tgrin:)

Powder 02-20-2014 01:21 AM

Right, he's now doing for $50 the very sketches he was doing free for the last 25 years, but definitely not actual commissions. He only took those for a super brief period in 2011 via his website but due to a busy schedule only did about 5 or 6. You can buy art off of him though, but it's all crazy expensive.

zkarlette 02-20-2014 01:51 AM

Something did change, because he used to sign and do tons of sketches for free and at the last show I went to he wasn't there every day of the con and you had to buy a ticket for different priced packages beforehand which Included getting limited stuff signed and sketches the prices weren't cheap either. I'm hoping this was the case only for this particular event.

ska_lives 02-20-2014 09:03 PM

Well, I know I will hope for the best and expect the worse. I mean big names like Jeff Smith and Ben Templesmith did small weekend commissions. Most ranged from 50 to 200 bucks. The only highway robber was Charlie Adlard.

You really can't use other people as a basis for comparison. Everyone is different. & Kev is one of the busiest people in the biz.

I announced it within this thread around mid November:
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=44861

It is cool thorugh to meet the other half of the TMNT after Peter Laird and the Mriage Dudes were there in 2008.

Sketches for $50? I will have it set aside!:D

ska_lives 02-21-2014 09:53 PM

I get lazy sometimes when it comes to checking the Heroes updates.

I w as not a fan of Laird when I met him there.

Sanjuro 02-21-2014 11:33 PM

I've met Laird a couple times and he never charged me! Unlimited signings.

To be fair, I doubt that he ****ed a pornstar. That makes Eastman's $50 all the more magical.

Powder 02-22-2014 12:45 AM

To be fair, he's never charged in the past, and the dough is going to charity...

He gave me two free poster prints of Michelangelo and autograph so I can't say that.:) Guess I caught him in a good mood. I think the poster prints were $10 each featuring one turtle Mirage style.I tend to go into fanboy mode and am overly complimentary even if I have issues with his blocking the non-Mirage stuff and not reusing Shredder/Rat King.

I was also psyched to met Web Dude Dan Burger. I frequently corresonded with him over the internet for several years and finally met him face to face. Dan Berger is underrated with TMNT and as a comic talent overall. I wish he would be looked at even just for a project with DC or Marvel! Not many writer-artist out there and yet that is what Mirage specialized in.

zkarlette 02-24-2014 04:35 PM

I have yet to meet Peter but since he doesn't travel to the west coast I ended up buying a poster signed by him on eBay, I hope that I get to meet him at some point.

I would guess Kevin has started to charge for the sketches simply because doing them for every single person in line takes forever and his line is always huge. Charging is the easiest way to manage that. I'm sure all regular signatures are still free, though.

Maybe not the place to post, but I picked up tickets to see Kevin in Dayton, OH... I never thought he would make it out this way. It will be my first time meeting him. I paid for an extra ticket for a meet & greet. Not sure what to expect there, but I'm bringing lots of stuff with me incase he feels generous to sign things. Of course, I'll pay what ever the guy wants for a sig (so long as I don't break bank too much) haha... :)

The only dilemma now is deciding what to get signed. Any suggestions? Feel free to look through my collection.

When I saw him at NYCC last year I brought with me IDW #1 (his cover), his IDW annual (first comic in 20 years or so), and Mirage # 1. I say go for classics and introductory/solo books!

Did this already happen? I live pretty close to Dayton (sure you can guess, LOL) :tgrin:

Olmosa 04-04-2014 08:10 AM

I had a chance to meet him at Comic-Con and he just went about drawing a turtle for me without my asking. I asked for his autograph, he took my book and said, "who's your favorite turtle?" I told him and he drew it out! Must've just been in a good mood!:twink:
