Will the CG in this show stand the test of time and look good 10 years from now?
For example good CG is timeless. The original Toy Story came out in 1995, and yet the CG in that movie still looks good to this very day. If a movie that came out in the ancient year of 1995 like Toy Story can still look visually impressive to this day, do you think the Nick TMNT show will be the same?
Or 10 years from now will we all look back at the CG and say, "Man I never noticed how primitive this show looked." or "The CG is really dated now." What do you think? |
I'd say the first 7 or 8 episodes of the series already look a bit "dated", some of the spots looked a bit blocky and choppy compared to the current episodes.
The second half of Season 1 and Season 2 visually already look more stunning and fluid to the beginning of the show. As for the show in general for the current bit, that's a wait and see to me. |
The render they use is rather low keep, but the models themselves on the main characters I think will stand time.

I think if CGI shows can use more models and backgrounds in future cartoons 10 years from now, the cheap re-use of backgrounds and robo-Bradfords and the like will seriously date this show. "look, this was back in the day when they had small budgets and had to reuse backgrounds and background characters".

Yeah but it's no different to reusing backgrounds in hand drawn animation. And really, we only notice it because we're adults. Kids don't.
It'll look dated in a few years, extremely dated in twenty but that will add to the history and appeal of the show. You get fond of them no matter how crappy they look. Certain scenes will probably stand out and do so forever. The same ones everyone always mention: Mutagen cannisters slow mo dropping into the city Parasitica slow mo on the Shellraise garbage cannon The water in Showdown A lot of the Leo vs Fungus shots And several of the action scenes are very cinematic. Film makers would chop off limbs to get real life shots like that. So yes Cubed, they will age for the most part but it won't really matter. |

Anyways, I think the CGI in the first few episodes will age a little, but Aslong as the animation keeps improving, I don't think the entire show will look dated. |

the only scene so far in its 1 and 1/2 seasons that looked awkwardly animated to me was the turtle temper rooftop scene. raph just looked unfinished, like they didnt put finishing touches on him.
and yeah, the cg will look older over time, but this show is increasing its animation each episode. the start of season 2, with the fight in the kraang ship, you could tell was better than it was season 1. and i think it will continue to get better. i honestly think the cg will be good long past this shows running, however many seasons there are. and so what if kids notice it. it doesnt ruin the show. in fact, i think it makes it better, like reusing certain buildings and alleys and parks, because instead of each episode feeling like its an entirely new city, it looks like the city is an actual city, that you become familiar with. llike they re-used the set in todays episode, that was obviously from a season one episode. they did change a few things in it so it wasnt identical, and there can be more then one car repair place in new york that may or may not look similar? |

I do think the show may look dated down the line, but I'll still look fondly at it and still enjoy watching it and pointing out some of the things I may not notice right now. |
IDK....I still like how Jimmy Neutron looks...and that's pretty old XD
So I'm sure TMNT will do just fine~ I always thought it looked awesome for CGI! Shows like Max Steel don't really grab my attention like TMNT's animation. |

I think it'll do just fine honestly. Ten years from now really isn't THAT long. Now forty, fifty years from now, I'm sure it'll look dated, but ten years, nah, I doubt it. And Toy Story is going to be hitting twenty years (!!).
I think it's really great animation and some of the shots are fantastic and it gets better and betters. |
Honestly, I don't think most cgi stands the test of time. We are very avid Disneyworld fans and we go a couple of times a year at least and a few years ago I was talking to an actual Disney animator at Hollywood Studios. I told him I was really irritated that Disney had moved from their hand drawn roots and asked him what he thought about cgi. I told him I just didn't personally feel like it holds up nearly as well as hand drawn. He said he had really had to search his heart on that issue and came to the conclusion that it did, in his words, have a "sort of expiration quality". He also said though that he feels like that since Walt was such an innovator and visionary that had he lived deeper in to the technology age that he would have already found something even better than cgi. With all that being said I will say that as a general rule I don't like cgi but I think for this show it just "fits" perfectly. Hand drawn takes MUCH more time and I really think that cgi allows the show to focus more on production quality as far as the writers are conerned because maybe they don't have to staff so many animators. As far as how will it hold up in 10 years, I honestly think the stories on this show are so good that we won't mind the cgi.

I don't go into the 2003 section and start going on about how I don't like the voice actors because that would be stupid and irrelevant. Not to mention it would just annoy all the other forumers. |
I don't really like the animation in this show NOW. I think it might be one of the things that's keeping me from really enjoying this series. It looks like claymation.

For people complaining about CG (I'm not talking about years from now at this point), TMNT really has the best animation out of any other fully-CGI series out there. Seriously, have you ever seen any of the other shows out there? The reason Pixar movies look so good are because of two things: 1. They're on a bigger budget. 2. They don't have to create episode after episode. Just a little over a 90 minute movie. CGI costs MONEY. Lots and lots of it at that. That's why a lot of the CG animated shows don't look "as good as the movies". So, getting back to my point from earlier. TMNT has WAAAY better-looking CG than any other fully-animated CGI show (although GL:TAS could be a close second). |

cause...I don't think we need this thread to be turned into "why this show is bad" Since this thread is about the animation and not the writing :) if possible. |
