I know that most of you probably know that starting in season 4 Michelangelo started using a grapling hook instead of his nunchukas as a weapon. Anyone know why they did this? Personally I liked the nunchukas much better and think the grapling hook just wasn't a good weapon. Usually all the tough villians would just break through it anyway.

Well, there are a few reasons I can think of. S&P had a problem with nunchaku. They are dangerous weapons (like swords sai aren't  ) that are easily simulated. In a few countries, and states here in the US, they are nearly illegal.
Also, they are pretty hard to draw in action, much less animate (as someone pointed out to me.) Mike hasn't always used his nunchucks. In the third episode A Thing About Rats, he uses mankiki gusari (might be spelled wrong, I'm too lazy to check) against the Foot robots. |
Over here in the UK the Nunchucks were considered to violent. Hmmmm??
Kali is right about Michaelangelo and his use of the Manriki Gusari as a weapon. He even used it in a mirage comic issue, although he stated that he prefered his chucks |
Yep! I just watched my vid that had the ep "A Thing About Rats," and Mikey did indeed use the manriki gusari. Coolness! I certainly hope he'll be using his 'chucks for the new cartoon. It'd be tragic if he were censored yet again.

I know what you're saying Azure. Hopefully with cartoons being a bit darker (like Batman, Justice League) we'll all get our wish. *wishes upon a star*
|
Hopefully the censors will have calmed down a little and just let it pass.
|
In the ep "a thing about rats" mike also uses his nunchucks as well, which is werid (there must be alot of room in his belt).

Cool link! Thanks for posting it Rat King! I had no idea what Manriki-Gusari were!

*has a flash back from The Enforcer where Jet Li slings around a fire hose at his attackers* mm... ;p

Well, manriki gusari are a very compact weapon. I could fit one easily in my jeans pocket. All balled up, it could fit in the palm of my hand (and I have small-ish hands.) I don't think it would be much of a problem for Mike to keep one in a belt pocket.

I was wondering what S&P was?? :-?
it was the second reply for this topic |
S&P stand for Standards and Practices (I think.) Anyway, it's those TV people that decide what can and cannot be shown on TV. They come up with the ratings too, I think. Shows have to pass their inspection before things get put on the air, or even go into production in some cases.

O ok thanks for the info :D
|
Heh heh heh. I think they should make ME the head honcho of S&P.
|
And so help us all if they did... :P

re: Michelangelo: Nunchukus or Grapling hook
I watched Donatello Makes Time today and Michelangelo actually uses both his grapling hook and nunchukus in that ep. I never noticed that until today.
