Legend Of The Yokai Promo Clip

So a new Promo Clip for the TMNT movie was released today, It looks like its giving us a bit of the back story from the movie, It appears that, Humanoid Turtles existed in ancient Japan at some point.

That explains the images of the Scrolls we saw, Of figures that look like Turtles.

Was that Splinter talking or no?
I'm not a big fan of them being mystical creatures or some big destiny plot or anything like that. So I hope that isn't whats gonna happen

TC - ya beat me too it. I just saw it a few minutes ago.

Honestly I was a bit concerned watching this because the mythos they were drawing from seemed to harken back to the 'demon' ancestry of the TMNT III film.

But the narrator did say:

Quote:

One generation passed the legend on to the next
So, SPLINTER may have used the legend as a bedtime story for the Turtles, and not much else.

Did the NARRATOR sound like Tony Shaloub to anyone else?

Sounded kinda like Shaloub to me, yeah.

miru 07-21-2014 10:44 AM

Sounds a bit like Powder's reboot idea.

Kanon 07-21-2014 10:44 AM

What the....? They even put elements of the third movie in it!?

What´s next? "Splinter gets cake" from the 2007 one?

That makes so much more sense.

It looks like a little bit of IDW influence.

a section of the website reads:

Quote:

Long before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles captured the hearts of people around the world, there were the Kappa Yokai, mythical creatures summoned by the spirits of honour, wisdom, courage and brotherhood. The Legend of the Yokai is an exhibition of global artists, featuring pieces inspired by these principles and the four heroes that embody them.
They may just be using the 'LEGEND OF YOKAI' as a jump off point for further promotion, as it the Turtles' story draws similarities to Japanese historical mythos.

Which seems to make sense in a way.

And Splinter was probably telling this mythological story to the Kid Turtles.

I'm cool with it. It'll explain Sachs' obsession with the Shredder armor and giant turtles at the very least.

.....Kappa!

honestly, im somewhat concerned because they are harkening back to Japanese mythology, with creatures resembling a race of turtles, it'll spur the old arguments again...but it is, what it is.

I LOVED the art style, and I really enjoy the artwork on the website.

A quote on the homepage reads:

Quote:

An exhibition that explores the mythical origins of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
If nothing else, its just a showcase of Turtle inspired artwork, never a bad thing.

And to think, a few weeks ago, I was complaining about their lack of presence in marketing. Things like this dont happen overnight, its clearly been in the works for a while.

Le Glorieux Tortue 07-21-2014 11:03 AM

This is one of the rare things I like from TMNT III, very cool coincidence that there are creatures in Japanese mythology resemble the TMNT. I would bet Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman had no idea of that.

Although I like stories where it's just a random thing that happened and nothing else, it is nice to tie it back to something sometimes. It gives a warmer feeling than a sort of nihilistic one

Kappa? Cappuccino? Nah, makes me hyper.

What's a Kappa?

ctt4lfecw 07-21-2014 11:09 AM

Alright! It looks like Yoshi will be in the backstory after all, as the master who taught the original Kappas.
