Anyone else nervous about kids in the theater?

So I saw Guardians of the Galaxy and I thought it was a great movie overall, I'd give it an 8.5/10, but I really would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't more a little kid who would NOT SHUT UP THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE. I told his parents to shut him up THREE TIMES throughout, and they just rolled their eyes. Since a lot of kids like TMNT, I am a bit nervous about this happening with TMNT. However, I rarely have bad moviegoer or little kid problems at my theater. The last it happened was with The Muppets in 2011. But I am still am a bit nervous. Anyone else.

To be honest this is partly why I more than likely will wait and go one day during the week in early afternoon. When hopefully many of the parents are at work and unavailable to take their kid at that hour, and the big rush for opening day/weekend has been through.

Hope that will at least somewhat increase my chances of getting my preferred seating and less kids to carry on and/or kick my seat the entire time. I hope the kids that go see it enjoy it, but I'd rather enjoy it myself with less interruption.

I'm worried about kids for every movie I go see, R rated movies included.

Same. I had Captain America 2 almost ruined for me because some idiots decided to show up with their 1 year old and sat right in front of me. Then the same idiots showed up again when I saw X-Men (but this time I knew to move before the movie started so that saved it for me).

As it is, I generally only go to movies on Sunday morning to avoid kids as much as possible (yes, both times these idiot parents brought their squirmy kid to the Sunday morning show).

At least when I saw The LEGO Movie I knew to expect kids and was prepared to tolerate them (and yet I blissfully ended up sitting next to some other childless adults).

Bring water balloons when entering the cinema.

When one of the ****ers make a fuss, throw it.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm leaving mine at home, Already got a babysitter!!!:D

Although my kids are (normally) very well behaved!!!

Dirty Blond 08-01-2014 09:22 PM

Go to a late show, though that's no guarantee either.

beeshaw 08-01-2014 09:37 PM

< - that kid's coming with me.

He's well behaved, been to lots of movies (Hell, he even sat through all of Amazing Spider Man 2) and his legs are too short to reach the seat in front of him. So I'm not worried about MY kid in the theatre.

I cannot begin to say how much I HATE when dipsh*t parents bring kids that drop skittles everywhere, talk really loudly, cry/fuss, kick the back of my chair, etc. It's just a majormdistraction. It doesn't matter what time of day, disruptive kids show up always. When I go to the movies, I always look for areas where kids are not near. I usually have to show up to movies later so I know where they are sitting. If I go early, they find me every time and ruin movies.

Again I abhor when both adults and kids become so disruptive that I begin asking myself why I even watch movies in the theater in the first place.

Cowabunga! Booyakasha! 08-01-2014 10:15 PM

Hell forget the kids I've been around just as many annoying adults as well. People who don't give a **** about taking their cell phones out cause they only give a damn about themselves and can't wait until the movie is over to be on their phones.

I've had a movie pass this past year but I'm over going to the movies now and I will only go for movies I must see on a big screen now which won't be many

sgtfbomb 08-01-2014 10:27 PM

The theater experience as a whole just sucks in general and it's mostly because the people -- those in the theater, those running the theater, and those outside the theater, telling you that if you don't like the movie they've made to piss off. :P

Of course, there's also the ticket prices, the less bang for your bucks concessions, the lousy, squeaky seats that hurt your back, etc.

I'd be happy to live in a world where on day 1, I could just buy the movie and be done with it.

Getting there I think, since some "on demand" features from some cable companies have a "same day as theater" retal option for some movies. Personally I'd like to own a hard copy as well, but it's a start. :)

matinee prices are cheaper during the day, can't tell you the last time I went at night and paid full price

Yeah, part of the reason I was already wary of seeing this in theaters regardless of anything else. Kids in the theater are sometimes a real huge pain in the ass. Not every time, obviously - I've actually been really pleasantly surprised more than once - but I've also been to more than a few movies where there were kids who just would NOT shut up.

I remember one of the times we went to see Superman Returns, there was this one kid that was so restless he kept talking, shouting, and running up and down the aisles. The family was sitting a couple rows in front of us and did little more than throw up their hands in frustration, it was horrible. If I'd acted like that when I was a kid, I would've been smacked so hard I'd have been embedded in the wall. Not just me, either; I vividly remember back then that I'd very often see kids get at least a spank for "making a scene" in theaters, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. I understand that kids nowadays are more hyperactive and less respectful in general, but fine, leave 'em home, then.

I feel like 10 is a decent age, that seems a little high but I personally don't recall seeing anyone who looked around that age act up. I feel like kids around 5 or 6 are too over-stimulated. And I kind of blame the parents more, I mean they're the ones who are supposed to set the example, but I guess they figure, "I paid all this money, let him (it's almost always little boys, y'notice?) do what he wants."

As a rule of thumb, we tend to go see "kids movies" at the latest possible showing nowadays, and that helps tremendously. Few parents want their kids up until almost 2am for a night out, even in summer.

Raphies 08-02-2014 01:05 AM

I hope there aren't many when I go, as well other crappy people who have no consideration for others when they yap on their phone.

Although I saw Frozen with a theatre packed full of kids and they were literally the most well-behaved kids I've ever witnessed.

Mhmm... I was never one to make a scene, but hell IF I had I'd have been promptly removed from there, dead silence the entire car ride home and hear it like hell once we got in the house, both for having acted however and for the waste of money AND the loss of my parents enjoyment of the film.

Hmm.. a late one sounds like a good idea, will have to watch and see what hours it's playing around here.

Leo656 08-02-2014 01:25 AM

I'unno about over there but in NJ a lot of theaters start their last show about 11:30 or so, which works out pretty well. Depending on length and how many trailers there are, a show gets out around 2am and most parents simply won't bring their kids to that, drive home, get them into bed between 2 and 3 in the morning, etc. So that works out pretty well, usually only about 20 people total in there around that time, which is also great when you just want to sit wherever you want. Sometimes it's even shocking how few people will go to that late a show even for a really good movie that's really popular. I've gone to blockbusters like three days after they opened and there'd be like ten people there at 11:30. I think it has nothing to do with the specific movie and everything to do with most people just don't want to be out that late, maybe for a bar or a dinner but not for a movie.

Good luck. :)

Konchadunga 08-02-2014 03:17 AM

If one of the little ***** is there, I'm going to yell at him to shut up. That should at least make things more entertaining.
