About the TMNT review thread

What the hell was that all about? I mean why is it closed? I don't think that it got so bad that it needed to get closed. Can anyone chime in and reveal why it was closed?

The Boston Ninja Turtle 08-05-2014 07:54 PM

2 entire pages of fighting

Indeed

Why not warn/eventually ban members who get out of hand instead of shutting everyone down?

Are we free to start a new review thread? Can we discuss reviews?

This methop opens the door to many questions.

Sanjuro 08-05-2014 08:17 PM

The thread should have been posts strictly to direct reviews or links to reviews. Commentary on any of those should have been designated to another thread.

Simple as that.

agreed 100%

And here I thought I was avoiding it, and anything else supposedly review related, for fear of spoilers, not arguments.

Was the forum like this a year ago, or is the "stress" of movie (and lack of Nick) just turning everyone into a bunch of mad snapping turtles biting at each other. :P

Powder 08-05-2014 08:24 PM

The latter.

If the case is that people weren't just posting reviews then why did certain discussions get away with going on as long as they did before the thread was closed? There should have been immediacy if it was an earnest problem. A friendly warning would have been nice.

we arnt hear to be baby sat and its unfair to ask the mods to do so...we are adults we should act like it

Likely due to an immediate lack of moderation.

In fairness, we don't have some super power to figure out what they are thinking when no form of discussion is at hand between us and them, we are just normalish folks. Normalish to some sort of degree.

Of course Sanjuro. :3

Closing threads hasn't changed a thing around here. As someone who has managed a classroom for six years, my advice is to crack down on the repeat offenders instead of having the whole class sit down quietly. Get to the root.

That is assuming people are actually getting out of hand. I tend to let people sort their own issues out more than less, but that's just my personal taste.

Truth be told, I have to agree with this.

You are right, I mean not everyone should be punished just cause of some apples being naughty.

When one thread has 20 new pages of posts, and there's 10 pages of threads to go through, it takes time to go through and clean things out and deal with people.

And 'friendly warnings' typically are ignored as soon as they are posted. Experience and our LAST problem with fighting in the movie section made that crystal clear.

In this situation, we had complaints that things were getting hostile. When it devolved to "Anti movie fans are just bay haters "Haters gonna Hate", we decided to stop the thread before it escalated further. Since people clearly can't keep a tap of their own behavior on here, it's unfortunately up to the staff to read through what happened and make the decision of warnings and bannings.

So yes, there is a short term shut down of the thread, But it will result in a better long term result.

ScrewtheMirageTMNT 08-06-2014 02:16 AM

^So in other words you will re-open the thread in a few days?! You did say short term. I think it would be best to ban certain people from that thread, if the problem repeat's it's self.

Machias Banshee 08-06-2014 08:29 PM

Well, now we have Two threads to watch, due to your impatiences...

ScrewtheMirageTMNT 08-06-2014 08:32 PM

^If you mean me then I am not freaking out. I have patience. Well, first of all, I made the first thread just cause I was curious about why the review thread was closed. Nothing more regarding that, second of all and lastly, I made the second thread because I had a feeling that for some reason we couldn't actually have a conversation about the various reviews from movie critics that were coming in. Are you implying that it was wrong of me to utter "ta dah" when I made the second thread?

Machias Banshee 08-06-2014 08:36 PM

Which is why you created a second thread immediately after posting this one?

Ta Dah...
