A Chinatown Ghost Story speculation thread

Since the next episode is still 4 weeks away, what do you guys think this will be about?

We haven't seen any trailer/clips of it yet, so it can be just about anything.

Spoiler ahead for those who haven't seen Vengeance is Mine

Spoiler:
My guess is the aftermath of Karai's mutation, she is mistaken by the people in Chinatown as the White Snake (an ancient Chinese myth) and the turtles arrives to handle the situation.

The title resembled the 1987 movie A Chinese Ghost Story and its 2011 remake, they probably changed Chinese to Chinatown because Karai is a Japanese and not a Chinese.

This scene is from the 2011 remake, depicting the White Snake:

One last surprise, in the original Legend of the White Snake, guess who was the main antagonist? A terrapin spirit!

Given the nick toon's track record with homages of horror films, I think it's likely that they'll do that, especially since the terrapin thing, seems like Chinese ghost story (or the white snake) was just waiting for the turtle's attention.

Nick series doing something horror related? Nah could never see that happen :tlol:

Really I'm actually hoping that's what it is. I was always assuming the Karai plot would be pushed off and only be slightly addressed In the finale, so it's be awesome to develop it a little now

JTH 08-16-2014 12:06 PM

If Karai is the main focus, then I predict the Leo/Donnie tension starts here and then escalates into the finale.

I think It's already there...or has been there since Wrath of Tiger Claw, as we see Donnie visibly balk at the idea of bringing a girl they know is their enemy into their home. And then later when he gets his horrified look on his face when Karai said that Tiger Claw was probably leading an army of Foot Soldiers to their lair.

And then there was Leo's blind desire to save Karai even though it puts their family in danger to do so.

Who knows maybe April will be attacked by Karai. And Donnie tries to defend April from her, Leo of course gets ticked at his brother for treating Karai like an enemy. And Donnie repeats the same words Leo told him in Mutagen Man Unleashed but this time Donnie is the one saying 'Karai isn't there any more.'

It's possible Timothy would die in the lair attack, or more likely Donnie would be left to assume Timothy has died in the lair attack. And since he's responsible for all that has happened to Timmy, the destruction of the lair will be the major thing that sends Donnie over the edge at his older brother.

You just brought up a great point. Timothy.

I definitely see him still being in the lair after they escape. Maybe he is captured and taken to shredder

Or we see the Lab being blown up, and Timothy thawing out and escaping. Donnie in the mean time wants to get him out, bu Leo stops him and says "He's a lost cause."

Yes. Just yes.

It's hard to say what this episode will be about, it could be about Karai or I think it might involve a new mutant.

The tension between Leo and Donnie started in Metalhead Rewired and I think it will get more tense in this episode. Also there might be some tension between Leo and Splinter too.

So this episode airs before the two part Dimension X episode?

I'd like it if it was about Leo and Karai, the title would make sense.

I don't think that's what OP meant though.

A lot of people on here said they were certain the Dimension X episode would a 2 parter before the 2 part finale. I think some people may have believed that.

Bo-yea-bo-lo-mee!!!!

Oh god...I loved "A Chinese Ghost Story". Absolutely one of my favorite movies starring the late and great Leslie Cheung. I even have producer Tsui Hark's autograph too!

Shouldn't Karai be half Chinese since she is the daughter of Hamato Yoshi and Teng Shen?

No, both Hamato Yoshi and Teng Shen are Japanese.

Indeed. It's just that the name Tang Shen is usually considered a Chinese name.

kelligrafie 08-17-2014 01:20 PM

They're probably calling it A Chinatown Ghost Story because there's a Chinatown in this series and not a Japantown. I don't think Karai's ethnic background has anything to do with any title change.

(I had to google Japantown because I'd never heard of any and they actually exist - I'm surprised.)

Yeah there is a huge nihonmachi in San Francisco.

tinlunlau 08-17-2014 05:21 PM

A Chinese Ghost Story dealt with romance between a human and a ghost. It also delves into how their romance should never be. So my speculation is this episode of tmnt will have some major Leo/Karai moments.

By the way, I've never fully seen the 2011 remake of A Chinese Ghost Story but from the few minutes I've seen of it, the focus all went to Louis Koo's character Yin Chek Ha (originally played by the late Wu Ma in the 80s version). It pretty much sucked! I even heard producer Tsui Hark was in New York this weekend for a retrospective screening of "A Better Tomorrow". Some of you may have heard of his name being referenced in "Entourage" and for directing "Once Upon a Time in China" starring Jet Li.
