This made me laugh
This was hilarious to me:
http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6e5e8fd5.jpg Coming from being an artist, I know that feeling all to well lol Anyone else have similar experiences? |
More times than I can count on 2 hands.
|
So is this thread about people stealing other peoples ideas or hard work and passing it off as their own?

I've seen that before. It's true.

Awesome pic, and I can see why that would be frustrating to a lot of people. I know if someone stole a fic of mine and posted it as their own, I'd be boiling mad.

Dude, I see art theft happen so often it's not even funny. It p*sses me off because one artist I followed on Tumblr actually took their whole Tumblr down due to the amount of art theft.
One person on Instagram is becoming quite infamous for reposting artwork without crediting the artist: http://instagram.com/raphs_girl Though she admits up-front that none of the art is hers, she does not credit the artists at all. Numerous TMNT fan-artists have contacted her and asked her to either give them proper credit or remove the artwork - she generally just deletes their comments and then blocks the artist. If anyone here finds out that their art has been stolen by this person, you can report it here: https://help.instagram.com/contact/391888707564685 ** Fair warning, she reposts ship/adult/cest content, so if you can't handle it, don't look at her Instagram/don't come crying - you were warned. |
Is that "our" Raph's Girl? I haven't seen her around in a long time, but this certainly wouldn't surprise me.
OT, I also like that picture. Less for the message and more for the dopey expression in the third panel. |
Truthfully, I don't know if it's the user by the same name from this forum; I just know I've been hearing a lot of TMNT fanartists sounding off about someone using that name. She's hijacked art from at least over a dozen artists in the TMNT scene on Tumblr (that I'm aware of - I'm sure there are more).
Again, she's quite clear about not having drawn them herself but when the artists approach her to ask that she credit them properly, she pulls some princess act about how she doesn't have time, she has so many followers, that pic was posted months ago and nobody goes back that far, blah blah blah and then blocks the artist. It's also worth pointing out that she has been busted cutting the signatures off the bottom of some peoples' art as well. She gets reported, but Instagram don't seem to be doing much as her account is still active and she's been getting reported for several months now. So I mean, yeah... just thought some of the artists here should be aware that this person is doing the rounds at the moment. |
Art theft has been common for hundreds of years. We aren't getting rid of it any time soon so long as someone is willing to make a quick buck. I had to take a class at Savannah College of Art and Design on art theft and its very simple. If a website has your paintings, or art work, on it and you didn't post it, get in contact with a lawyer and you can sue the site if it refuses to take them down. The only problem is that these art works are copy righted to Nick so you have less ownership rights. If she had one of my paintings up, then Instagram would have to take it down asap but since the designs belong to a parent company, that company has the main say so when it comes to removing the art.
The easiest solution is to report her url to Nick and state that she is stealing copy righted art work from a bunch of their artist and let Nick do the dirty work. |
Urgh, art theft makes me irate! Someone took a piece of mine from Instagram and reposted it as their own, what totally wound me up was that they hadn't bothered to 'like' mine and insult to injury was they got more appreciation for my work than I did! I pointed out, politely might I add, that I was the artist and surprise surprise they ignored me. I kicked up a fuss in the end and the pic miraculously disappeared. I have no problem with anyone sharing my work, it's lovely of them to do that as long as they don't take credit.
Instagram is full of these repost-type accounts for tmnt now, shocks and amazes me how many followers they have! |
I'm lucky in that almost every time someone uses one of my images, I get credit. I have had a few instances where I've made custom figures for people and they've tried to pass them off as their own work, which is always a sh*tty situation. My work's fairly identifiable though, so normally someone will alert me, and I can fire off a threatening email...

This happens a lot in my other hobby (the replica prop forum), where people will recast someone else's work and sell the recasts as their own, either in full or as a kit. Total ********.
I did a run of 20 sith holocrons based on the picture in the Star Wars visual dictionary. The prototype was made of brass, machined "feet", laser etched marble plates and acrylic borders with the Aurebesh alphabet lettering. Prototype cost me 600 and I worked hard with the fabricator to get them as perfect as possible. I did a run of 20 and priced them to cover the cost of the proto which allowed me to break even and have one of them for free. (this is what is considered a successful run). Long story short, my work was copied and others sold theirs at a huge profit claiming the work as their own. My holocron was every bit a piece of art to me, so I can completely relate and empathize my friends. Always respect the work of others and give credit wherever appropriate. |
Ahh. So this whole thread is about art theft. Or pretty much just theft of another's work in general. Would the same go for Youtube videos? I ask this because of well here:
Video I put together. This video. They're basically the same videos but the other has a different title. And somehow this tool has more likes and views on there video than mine. WTAF? |

But yeah - art thieves suck. |

The Raph's Girl you're referring to doesn't sound like our Raph's Girl to me. It sounds like Nightwatcher'sOnlyGirl, and I can see this happening. I think she took an OC from another author and made it her own, too. I remember reading about it on a different TMNT forum.

I'm lucky in that my art's never been stolen before [the most I've seen are those ****** youtube artwork slideshows that used to be really popular; I've seen a few of those using my art but I didn't particularly care] but I put my name on most of my work, too. But I absolutely loathe art theft and I've seen it happen to friends.
Most of the time, art thieves are just people that don't know any better and can legitimately learn from it. But it doesn't sound like this "Raph's Girl" instagram user is one of those. She seems to be deliberately stealing art. Awful. |
