who would you choose to be director of a tmnt film?
 

I have a couple of ideas.

I would really want to see a tmnt movie directed by guillermo del toro. it wouldn't have to be completely based on the original comics but really inspired by them. definitely have it set in 1984 and have the creature design team from hellboy working on it. I think he would do an awesome urban sci-fi/fantasy version that wouldn't even need to leave the sewers for the first movie. the mousers push the turtles deep into the sewer discovering the other mutants along the way or something and at the end realizing that baxter stockman's strings are being pulled by shredder, and then the reason for their training is reviled. think about how awesome his version of splinter would be too.

also it would have been great if david cronenberg had made a tmnt movie back in the 80's. staying true to the comics but adding a level of body horror on the account of mutation.

John Favreau has a great knack for combining humor, drama and action, and incorporating CGI characters.

More importantly I'd like someone who "gets" Turtles to write the script.

I'm a big fan in general, especially of his earlier work, but dude's totally lost his touch. I'm glad he realized it and all but retired from directing before he slipped even further into self-parody.

I wish certain other directors would take the hint and follow suit. Big name types who make bad movies on purpose. Anybody who's only in it for the paycheck and doesn't care about the product. You know the type.

Brad Bird or John Woo. They both know how to film action sequences and make them seem interesting.

Even his older stuff is only great because of the terrific characters/dialogue, though. Even Kevin is the first one to say that all of his movies look terrible.

He's a "good director" in that he knows how to help get really great performances out of his cast, but he doesn't know how to actually set up and film a scene properly, especially anything action-wise. That's why now he's more a "hack for hire" who just writes and touches up scripts and lets other people do all the "real" work.

I wouldn't mind a Tim Burton TMNT. Live action of course, not stop motion.

Can you imagine what sort of mutants he will produce?

I don't want to see the Turtles all decked out in black and white striped bandannas. :lol: And we already got Edward Shredderhands with the last movie. :lol:

A few names already that I'd agree (Del Toro would be great) with but to add two more.

Zack Snyder. He actually is high profile and was a fan of the original Mirage comic.

Robert Rodriguez. He can do adult, The Desperado "trilogy" and Sin City and kid aimed pictures like Spy Kids. I think he's really "get" TMNT.

Steve Wang.

Because he was an FX guy (working on films like The Monster Squad) which you can find here https://www.facebook.com/StevewangCreatureCreator.

PLUS he directed two films that, if you combined the two, would Equal Ninja Turtles (a Real, Good Ninja Turtles movie).

One film he directed was Guyver: Dark Hero...with just a meager $500,000 who directed guys in suits into an 'R-Rated Power Ranger' style movie with practical monster suits and all (and the lead is the same guy who voiced Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games), mixed in with well done Martial Arts...if you can do that with just half a million...imagine what he can do with a much bigger budget. It shows that he can work with people in suits mixed with Martial Arts choreography.



And the next film he directed was Drive with Mark Dacascos & Kadeem Hardison, an action/comedy that was done on a small $3 million budget. It showed (once again) wonderful Martial Arts choreography, using a budget well (and not splurging it), as well as fun banter/comedy/connection between the leads (that's actually funny) which should be essential for a Turtles movie.







So...a Director that has used tiny as hell budgets ($500,000 & $3 million) in an Extremely Effective Manner (the money is on the screen, not wasted). A Director that knows how to direct Fight/Action Sequences, as well as dealing and Making Monsters/Suits/Creature FX. And a director that has At Least dealt in the realm of both comics (in the effect that The Guyver is based on a Manga) AND in the action/comedy genre (with Drive from 1997).


To me, Steve Wang would be the Perfect Choice.

I could actually see Del Toro or Rodriguez.

I like Snyder's movies but I don't think his style fits TMNT at all, honestly. I think his style is too "big" and I think that was already a problem with the last movie.

kevin smith came out of retirement, he made tusk and it was really good. his next movie is called yoga hosers.

Ah, didn't know that. Although I did say "all but retired", because I wasn't sure and wanted to hedge my bets just in case.

Making crap like Red State & Tusk is evidence that Kevin should have went with that whole Retirement thing.

If you want to see a selfish idiot played by Justin Long get turned into a Walrus by Michael Parks who has 20 minute monologues...and then add an annoying as hell Johnny Depp in a faker than hell French Accent playing a Canadian, where everyone in Canada says 'Aboot'...then I guess Tusk is for you. That movie sucked.


Robert Rodriguez hasn't been involved in a good film since Planet Terror. He produced Predators and that movie sucked. Sin City 2 sucked. And the Machete films sucked. No thanks on Rodriguez.

Zack Snyder screwed up big time with that terrible Man of Steel flick.

And Del Toro stank up the place with Pacific Rim which was boring as hell. The only good scene was the fight in Hong Kong (even with that stupid 'out of the blue sword' thing.

I liked 'Tusk' too. Attended a special midnight screening knowing very little about it beforehand and... whoa. Didn't know the guy would actually be turned into a Leatherface-version of a walrus. Didn't know Johnny Depp would be popping up halfway through & taking over the movie. I fully understand why some would hate it but it was instantly one of my fave cult horror comedies.

Anyways, my dream director - Brad Bird. Others would be Gareth Evans, Jon Favreau, Kim Jee-Woon, Jody Hill, David Gordon Green, Peter Travis & Drew Goddard.

(anyone remember when John Woo was gonna direct an all-CGI animated movie in the early 2000's? That would've been sweet).

hobo with a shotgun is one of my favorite movies. a ninja turtles movie done in this grindhouse/ hyper candy colored violent style would be amazing to me.
