Raphael vs Robin

Comicvine put together its latest versus poll and put IDW's Raphael against Damian Wayne as Robin. Raphael won on the fan poll. If I was Dick Grayson I do believe Raphael would have lost but a bit but any other Robin would fall to Raphael.

Grayson would win, no contest. Tim would have a real shot because he's a brilliant tactician who even Bruce suspects could outshine even himself one day. (Least that's how it was pre-New Stupid 52)

Jason and Damien have no shot. I f***ing hate Damien. I wouldn't mind seeing Raph "forget" he was fighting a kid and twist his head around. Friggin' punk. I never thought anyone could irritate me more than Jason. It's like the writers who came up with Damien said, "Let's start with Jason and turn the Douche up to 11."

oldmanwinters 12-20-2014 09:19 PM

I'd vote on Birdbrain. Regardless of the dude under the mask, Robins are considerably more tactical than ol' hothead snapping turtle!

Leo656 12-20-2014 09:25 PM

Not Jason, Jason was only even Robin because Bruce was subconsciously trying to get back at Grayson. Kid never had the chops. He'd get his ass kicked in about 7.4 seconds.

The other guys I could see.

CyberCubed 12-20-2014 10:00 PM

Raphael would beat Damian, Tim Drake, and Jason Todd.

Nightwing would probably be more evenly matched and could go to either.

Leo656 12-20-2014 10:08 PM

I think people underestimate Tim. Tim Drake is a strategic genius AND a highly skilled martial artist/ninja. Even Grayson said that Tim might just about be his equal.

Oh, wait, you never met Tim Drake, only that imposter from the cartoon show. Guess you ain't heard, but he's a total pimp.

If nothing else he's a ton smarter than Raph. If he can beat King Snake, he can probably beat Raphael.

Coola Yagami 12-20-2014 10:37 PM

Eh, Damian can hang with with Raph, and definitely take him. Especially since he'd remain calm while Raph will keep losing his cool and screw up.

Leo656 12-20-2014 10:42 PM

He's like 4 feet tall and weighs 85lbs, maximum. Raph's a tank. That kind of sh*t was implausible even when they were using the GOOD Robins.

That's kinda why I hate Damien, he's written to be such an overly-perfect uber-"bad-ass" fan-wank character, when he's really just an arrogant little snot. Like that "Batman and Son" movie. That sh*t's just disgusting.

Now, I can see Tim kicking Raph's ass for the exact reasons you mentioned. Plus, Raph was trained by Splinter. Tim was trained by Batman. No contest.

Zulithe 12-20-2014 10:46 PM

LOL i'd like to see this poll happen again once Robin's new superpowers are revealed.

Love Raph and also love Damian so it's a hard pick for me. Both trained in combat basically from birth, but Raph has more experience since he's older (oh, and he's got mutant enhancements etc.)

Don't even care that Raph won. Just the fact that they put him against a 10yo kid should show you what a badass Damian is. :P

Leo656 12-20-2014 10:54 PM

Some things I just don't get. HOW can anyone love Damien? Like really, he's just such a piece of sh*t on purpose. It's not "edgy" or "bad-ass"; when kids in real life act like exactly the entitled little snot-rocket he acts, we as adults generally admit we would like to put them (or their parents) through a window.

Stick a cape on him, though, "Best Character EVAR!" I sincerely don't get it. I would f*cking shoot that kid in the face until I was out of bullets, reload, and start over.

Agreed. Damian is a little c*nt. I watched 'Son Of Batman' & realized I was wishing harm on a child character lol

Zulithe 12-20-2014 11:38 PM

The Technodrome being Raphael home turf I'm not even interested in defending Damian here, my time is more valuable than that. Just look at the comments on the comic vine article, you'll see plenty of detailed replies -- a lot of the ones who pit Raph as winning even give Damian some props. He has a lot of fans, I know I'm not alone in liking him and glad that he's returning to the comics. He's a hell of a lot more interesting than Tim Drake. Same for Jason Todd, although his transformation into Red Hood at least gave him his own vibe to set him apart from the other Robins.

Anyway guys, having such vulgar thoughts about harming a preteen child (fictional or not) is disturbing as it is. Did you feel that way about Hit Girl, who is pretty much a mirror image of Damian?

Leo656 12-21-2014 12:02 AM

Hit Girl is supposed to be satirical. Damien is just a dick. I seriously can't wrap my head around a character whose entire gimmick being, "The most obnoxious, arrogant, unlikable personality imaginable", being openly embraced and worshiped to the degree he is.

If Damien was YOUR kid, and he talked to you the way he talks to his own FATHER, who happens to be BATMAN of all people, you'd tan his hide with every belt in your closet. Don't lie. We live in an era where the comments section of almost every single news article is full of comments by adults bemoaning what entitled little c*nts kids are nowadays, and here we get that taken to the Nth degree, played straight, and he's a HERO? And further, people LIKE him? The hell is happening to society? Seriously.

And how exactly is he "more interesting" than Tim? Because Tim is - by Bruce's own admission - a better detective than Batman himself, a computer genius, and - by Dick's own admission - a better fighter than Grayson was at his age? Oh, wait, but Damien's default solution to every confrontation is, "I'll just murder the f*ck out of everyone." Real goddamn heroic. Great example. Terrific role model behavior coming from what is supposed to be the "wish-fulfillment" character for the younger kids who read the book.

Also, Tim earned the job. Damien barged in and demanded it, and threw a fit until he got it.

There is literally not ONE redeeming thing about that character. Not a single thing. Grant Morrison has done a lot of stupid sh*t, but that one is unforgivable. This sh*t wouldn't be happening on Denny O'Neil's watch. He was quite crystal clear that "Son of the Demon" never happened in-canon, and that's why it was printed as an "Elseworlds" for years.

Xav 12-21-2014 12:30 AM

They should have the four Turtles fight the four Robins.

Leo656 12-21-2014 12:52 AM

Mind Blown.

...No Steph then, huh? I kinda don't count her either, I was just checking.

Xav 12-21-2014 01:06 AM

I didn't know she existed. I was thinking of the sons of Batman vs the sons of Splinter.

Leo656 12-21-2014 01:37 AM

Good call. Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler aka Batgirl #537 was briefly Robin during Tim's run, or at least she fancied herself as Robin, but people always debate about whether or not she counts. It was like for 5 minutes.

Leo656 12-21-2014 03:01 AM

He also once presented a duffel bag of human heads as a trophy.

Adorable.

Shark_Blade 12-21-2014 03:05 AM

I actually prefer Damian Wayne to the rest of the Robins.

He's so rude and rough for a littly tyke, love seeing him beating the **** out of things and people. He showed no mercy and is able to beat his target to a pulp, bloody and all. He's even capable of murder (the other Robins can't even compare to that lol). He was raised by Talia al Ghul after all.

But underneath that hardened exterior he does value kinship and loyalty from what I read of New Batman & Robin (aka Batman Reborn) comics - Dick Grayson as Batman. I have all series I think :D.

But eh, it's still great that Raph won. Although in a fight, I reckon Damian would win.

Yes love that moment. :tlol: Such a poster child.

Leo656 12-21-2014 03:10 AM

So, I'm just gonna go ahead and ask, at the risk of being an asshole, I just have to.

So. The brain damage. Did you grow up living under power lines, or, as I suspect, was it a "parents built you a swing set less than three feet away from the back of the house" kind of deal? I've been dying to know, and I just can't hold it in anymore.
