Which was the worst of all? The Next Mutation, the 2014 movie, TMNT 3, or TMNT 2K7?

The Next Mutation, the 2014 Platinum Dunes movie, TMNT 3, and TMNT 2k7 are probably the versions of TMNT within the fandom that have been the most despised within the franchise, or at least the most divisive. Which version do you think is worst of all and why?

Edit: I noticed that MewMeow made a poll about the worst movie earlier, but I wanted to incorporate more TMNT media (i.e. TV shows, such as The Next Mutation) with this poll and expand the comparison discussion.

Next Mutation, honestly I enjoy it because it's terrible, but it's easily the worst. For what the show was, and with the budget, there was never any hope it would be good. No classic or known villains or supporting cast, a horrible forced female character, added purely for diversity (though I am convinced it could've been handled better). I love the Turtle designs, it gave individual outfits without sacrificing familiarity, I liked the idea of the Dragons, though not their presentation, but ultimately it's probably the worst version.

pennydreadful 02-24-2015 06:29 PM

I selected 2014 as the worst because out of all of the movies/series listed, this was the only one that bored me enough to make me want to fast-forward my way through it. (For what it's worth, I didn't - I hung in until the bitter end).

Autbot_Benz 02-24-2015 06:45 PM

Next Mutation it is just the worst thing to happen to the TMNT franchise. The suits looked like crap the voice acting was crap Shredder was a bigger joke than he was in the 80's cartoon. That is what happens when Saban gets a hold of turtles. Next Mutation makes Turtles 3 & The 2014 movie look like excellent movise

CyberCubed 02-24-2015 07:04 PM

TMNT III and 2007 are perfectly watchable movies.

Next Mutation and 2014 are terrible.

LeotheLateBloomer 02-24-2015 07:06 PM

Why is the 2007 movie even up there? That was a good movie.

And where's We Wish You a Turtle's Christmas and Turtle Tunes?

That's just commercial stuff, its like toy merchandize.

That's hard for me to decide on, the cons of each are different... they could all have their individual fan-given Razzie-like awards, given for separate reasons.

Areas of my personal "Failzies" awards:

Next Mutation - costume design, general dopiness, female added for romantic interest/needless history change to accommodate it
2014 - writing, human character focus, Turtle steroids, ill-fitting celebrity name grab
TMNT 3 - not using Jim Henson creators for costuming, making Turtles all look the same
2007 - character design (was never too impressed with it, found it kind of bland), parts of the story/writing/dialogue

I suppose 2014 "wins" for having the most points, though the rest are all very close behind. Interestingly, all of them have some character design element I wasn't big on.

On the up side for 2014 I guess, most of it's issues are what surround the Turtles and less about they themselves.

I'd admit that I've put the disc in a small handful of times since I own it, but the last few times I've started doing exactly that, fast forwarding through the boring non-Turtles parts.

I guess that's another negative for 2014, it's the only Turtles anything I've taken to skipping portions.

So bad that they are (ok, should be?) known only as "that which should not be named."

turtlefanforever 02-24-2015 07:30 PM

2012 series

As much as I hate PD's movie. the nick series just has more out there. It just keeps churning out episodes. if there were both one stand alone thing then it'd be PD by a landslide. . THe only thing PD has going for them is that the there is almost literally no way that the sequel can be as bad or worse than the first.

Of course it keeps churning out episodes its a TV Show that is what TV shows do.Its been renewed to a 4th season show and is 10x better than that crap TNM

Coming Out Of Our Shells or Turtle Christmas :tlol:

The 2007 movie doesn't belong on this list, IMO. It's not perfect, but it does get a lot right, and parts of it are quite well-made. It's not the best, but it's far from the worst.

TMNT3 is... bad. But it did have potential as a concept. And even the movie we wound up with has some "so bad it's good" entertainment value, which is worth something to me, at least.

The Next Mutation's in a similar spot for me. I mean, it was definitely bad. I don't know that it could have been "good" exactly, but from the little I've seen, I can say that I laughed at it a bit and otherwise it's really easy to ignore.

So BayTurtles gets my vote. It's a terrible movie. I've covered this plenty of times before, so I won't get too far into it again, but damn near every aspect of the movie was so poorly-handled, from the piss-poor directing to one of the laziest, dumbest "scripts" I've ever seen filmed. Worst of all, it was just so generic, unengaging and boring on even a basic story level that I had a hard time getting through it. I didn't laugh with it and I couldn't laugh at it; I got no entertainment value from it at all. TMNT3 and TNM at least have the excuse of being "cheap"... BayTurtles was a hugely expensive turd, but one that had plenty of time, money and resources at its disposal. It has no valid excuses for its badness, and to me, that makes it far worse.

TurtleTitan97 02-24-2015 09:36 PM

Definitely the 2014 movie.

How is it that Nickelodeon was smart enough to not green lit a sequel to "The Last Airbender" after it got panned by critics, but yet we end up getting a sequel to this piece of junk?

nylemon 02-24-2015 10:08 PM

In my opinion,2007 is the second best movie after the original.
I like The Next Mutantion though Tons of fans hate it, think it as a B-movie,it's cheap but kind fun.

CowabungaMikey 02-24-2015 11:41 PM

TMNT III, although I still think it's a good film. I wish Turtles Forever was on this poll.

Upon looking at MewMeow's poll, TMNT 2K7 had a significant amount of votes, so that's why I included it on this poll.

Those versions didn't have their own storytelling to expand/create each of their own universes, characters, plots, etc.

Since Turtles Forever served as more of a grand series finale to the 2K3/4Kids TV series rather than its own separate entity, I didn't include it.

Hmmm, so you would consider the Nick series far worse than the poll choices provided (including Next Mutation and the 2014 movie)? :-? Besides the quantity of episodes, what particular aspect(s) are just that detestable (i.e. characters, story writing, mutants, direction/tone) in the Nick series that you consider it the worst of the franchise?

I know a lot People complain about the Fred Wolf Turtles being misrepresented but that's about the only complaint I ever hear about that movie. To me it's irrelevant because I don't think the Fred Wolf cartoon is a good show and I think the way they're potrayed kind of makes sense in the context of the story, even if it is a little bit inaccurate.

Cryomancer 02-25-2015 05:32 AM

2014, not so much because it's bad (although it is), but because it's the worst thing a movie can be: mediocre. And forgettable. I keep forgetting I watched it because it was just such a blah nothing of a movie.

Next Mutation is at least memorable and weird.

Nameless 02-25-2015 07:54 AM

turtle xmas... and if you try to tell me they don't count because they have no story line i say thats half the reason i choose them. that and there costuming is pure nightmare fuel.

LOL they totally messed up the 1987 Turtles, just for a story?
When a 2003 Turtle makes a dumb joke: Eh, nothing special.
When a 1987 Turtle makes a dumb joke: ''UUH WTF? THEY SO DUMB LOL!''
