When will they bring gangsters/mobsters into the Nick cartoon?
An aspect in every TMNT series is sometimes the Turtles just fight regular organized crime that has nothing to do with the Foot, mutants or aliens. The Nick show is really missing the human crime-lord element of the series. And no the Purple Dragons don't count.
Mirage: Had a ton of mobster/gangster stories. In the Image series a mob boss tried to reclaim Shadow from Casey Jones. Original toon: Big Louie, Pinky McFingers, Don Tortelli and Mad Dogg Mcmutt. 4kids: Gangsters/Mob from "Lone Raph and Cub" and "City at War." Archie: The Dog Star gang IDW: The Savate (?) plus the stuff in Eastmans Annual Where are the human gangsters/mobsters with handguns? |
Well we'll get Hun, a gang leader, that's close enough.
|
Perhaps that is how they will introduce Hun - as a kind of mafia hit man. Lets face it, the mafia can't have failed to notice everything that's happened since Battle for New York!

Except for Hun, there haven't been any memorable gangsters or mobsters. It's slim pickings, unless you're just using a name and physical image for a new character, in which case, plenty of pre-existing templates.
I would personally argue Big Tony Puzorelli (the mob boss grandfather of Shadow Jones in Image's Volume 3) was incredibly memorable, but he's "non-canon" to Mirage so... Yeah, slim pickings. |
I'd love to see some mafia type group, but maybe there will be once Hun turns the PDs into a formidable group. I'd also like to see a rival gang that goes against the Dragons as that would be neat.

& Vol. 3 is canon to more people than it is not. Most folks accept Vol. 3 as the natural progression of Mirage canon. Pete decided he wanted to pretend it didn't exist, but Pete hates tons of beloved Mirage stuff, so it's kinda silly to use his way of thinking as your own. |

Hey, Image Volume 3 was my favorite version of TMNT until IDW came along to tie with it. It is totally canon in my mind, but as you said, from an official perspective, it is non-canon. What else does Laird hate that is beloved Mirage stuff? Or at least, not acknowledge? |

Would rather see Triads or Yakuza personally. How well that meshes with NY? eh.
|
That'd be awesome, but unlikely, I'm guessing.
|
Oooh, Purple Dragons verus the Yakuza, would be neat to see. And there were the Turks in 2K3, the rival gang that the PD's tried to wipe out. And that guy who took over from Hun in the BttS season. We really DO need more human villains! And I wouldn't be upset if Tortelli or Big Louie somehow ended up in the show, either. While we're at it, we can add another OT gang- the Cyber Punks! I draw the line at Wally and Timmy(?) "The Beaver" Cleaver, though! Or Tony "The Butcher" Vivaldi.
Does anyone know if R&B's old gang had a name? As long as both of them are in the new show, we ought to at least get some sort of homage to their original version's gang. Or would that have been the Purple Dragons, since they were working for Shredder, and he's always been tied to them? |

Looks like you got your answer with today's episode.
|
I figured with that dude being morbidly obese that he was Big Louie, given the namesake implies a gent of a certain size. Bummed that was not the case, especially given he was likely a throwaway character who will never return. Either way, I enjoyed his inclusion!
|
They don't make models in this show without the intention of re-using them so I'm sure we'll see this mobster again. The show needs more human down-to-earth enemies since the Turtles face mutants, aliens and robots all the time in this series.
More human mobsters with guns would be great. I want to see more organized crime in this show. |

Well, Shredder called him Don Vizioso, but that doesn't mean that his name isn't Louie. After all, the Don is the big boss in a mob, so all of them are called Don Something or Other.
