Why does Old Hob look so much like Verminator-X?

Anyone think Old Hob looks like Verminator-X before the cyborg implants?

Old Hob is already missing an eye due to Splinter clawing it out, so him getting cybernetic implants over the eye makes sense. I wonder if Old Hob is going to go this route especially with all the Archie elements recently in the book.

Sorry, but no, I don't really agree he looks like Verminator-X.

I mean, honestly, they're both big short-hair cats missing an eye. That's pretty visually similar just because of similar anthropomorphic biology. Completely different MOs though...

Isn't V-X a lynx originally?

It does seem plausible though that IDW might retroactively throw in some more similarities, the way they're ramping up the Raph/Alopex shipping (ugh) in response to everyone thinking she's their version of Ninjara (ugh).

Wrong eye's missing. No connection.

Mutant Ninja Anole 03-26-2015 06:33 PM

*disclaimer: I have read very little of the Archie run*

Well I mean they could do that but both cats and the "missing eye indicates toughness" tropes are both pretty common. His color, backstory and personality are all his own. Hob is a better name regardless so cyborg upgrade or no I hope he keeps his name.

Alopex is basically a snow-themed Ninjara at this point. The shipping moment between her and Raph when they were caught in the net during the Bebop/Rocksteady brawl was something straight out of Archie to me.

But now between the Mutanimals, Null, Mondo Gecko, Ray, etc....all being introduced I wouldn't be surprised if Hob decides to "upgrade" himself with cybernetic implants...thus making him and Verminator X one and the same.

This wouldn't be the first time they combined two previously unrelated characters, as Angel became Nobody for example.

Wait until Hob becomes a cyborg, develops a hate for Splinter, and starts listening to a lot of Public Enemy and then sure he could get there.

What is Sally became the IDW's version of Verminator X...Verminatrix

While its too early to tell, Sally seems like a Jaguar substitute. Its obvious IDW wasn't going to bring back all the old Mutanimals, and since Jaguar and Dreadmon were the two least popular ones of the original team I can see them being ignored.

With Null being introduced the only other major Archie-only villains we haven't seen yet are Malinga from the bug planet, Armaggon, and Verminator X.

We do have a shark though, maybe him and Hob will take an unplanned trip to the future and come back mad as hell.

ToTheNines 03-27-2015 06:30 AM

The name "Verminator X" will never be uttered in the pages of this comic book.

"Verminator X" was always cheesy even for TMNTA. It stuck out like a sore thumb to me when I was reading it as a kid.

He does make a good point. But please, no... leave Old Hob as simply Old Hob. Or as I prefer to call him, Nick Furry. C'mon, the cat assembled a badass team of mutant Avengers!

I agree. Why does every original character IDW and Nickelodeon create have to wind up a re-imagining of a established character from previous incarnations? Next thing ya know that Lindsey chick will go into witness protection and become Oyuki.

Because its down purposely? They're re-imaginings and there's only so many different animal mutants you can make without treading on old ground.

I can see Old Hob upgrading himself with cybernetic implants and then saying, "I'm Verminator-X now, does it sound corny?" and then the Mutanimals all laugh at him and he says, "Aw, forget it, just continue calling me Old Hob" and leave it at that like an inside joke.

I joked about this elsewhere a while ago (Predictions for Old hob thread, I think). but as I pointed out there, when Old Hob were first introduced her was a grey cat and over time he's become the similarly tabby colours of V-X...

Looks more like Nick Fury to me...
