Have you ever feared death?

I have feared death for a long time. I don't want it to come early, but I may never know.

Have you guys ever feared death? Discuss below.

Prowler 04-18-2015 11:57 PM

Of course I have. Who isn't afraid of death? Pretty much every person on earth is afraid of dying. Even suicidal people take a lot of time to come to a decision. Dying is irreversible. Not to mention not having any idea what happens after we die scares most of us.

Now, do I think about death often? Not so much, since that'd be pretty depressing.

I don't think I fear the ultimate result of death anymore. I think I fear the process of death- that it might be painful or unpleasant or happen in a frightening manner- but I don't fear the ultimate result. If there's a heaven, than it's guaranteed to be better than here. If there's hell, it can't be much worse than the places my own head takes me. And if neither of these exist, than it's just like a dreamless sleep, and I really love to sleep.

That's...not true at all. I don't WANT to die, but I'm not afraid of it. Heaven's gonna be awesome for me.

But yeah, it's whatevs. I've come to terms with the fact I'm probably dying young.

YOLOOOOOOOOOOO.

Slade 04-19-2015 12:03 AM

Nope. Don't fear death.

MsMarvelDuckie 04-19-2015 12:32 AM

"Don't get me wrong, it's not that we're afraid. Far from it. It's just that we have this thing about Death. It's just not us!" (Barf, in Spaceballs)

This is about how I feel, TBH. I'm not afraid of it, I just don't really want to go anytime soon. I've got too much to do!

I think the 'how' is the scarier part. We're too inclined to let people suffer, I wish humanity treated each other with the same mercy we're willing to show to pets and other creatures because we don't want them to suffer.

The fact of the matter that it happens isn't really scary, per se, just sad when considering the lives of family and friends and interests I'd have to stop being a part of.

Tell you what, should these Turtles hopefully outlive us and carry on without us... if there would turn out to be such thing as ghosts and TMNT have any movies after I'm gone, my invisible ass will be in that theater. :tlol: An [after]lifelong free theater pass could be a plus.

DarkFell 04-19-2015 02:30 AM

"Do you fear death?" That reminds me of this guy..

Do I fear death? Somewhat. Should I fear death? No.
It is within human nature to be afraid to have our lives end all of the sudden. However, death can also be a kind release to those that are suffering and feel it is their time to leave. *See deteriorating health conditions.* In the end, death is neither friend nor foe; it just is.

No, I don't fear death. It's inevitable, it's going to happen to everyone.

I fear not living a satisfying life more.

Also, as Indigo said, the "how" of death presents some problems. I'd rather it not be slow, undignified and lingering. I'd also rather not be stuck here as a ghost, or have to deal with any kind of afterlife, if I can possibly avoid it. Getting through one life is enough of an ordeal.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Also, shark blade, I wouldn't post things like that if I were you.

Wow, good job up there with the downing of Christianity.

I fear losing loved ones a lot more than losing my own life. That being said, I would gladly take a bullet or any other type of mortal wound for somebody I care about. Heck, a while back I imagined what it'd be like to heroically risk my life to save the world from an alien invasion, ala Tony Stark at the end of Avengers.

senpai 04-19-2015 11:45 PM

Of course I have. Lately, I'm like: I don't want to die. Right? I still have a whole bunch I haven't done. What terrifies me is whatever is going to kill me. If it's physical like a car accident, I'm scared of the impending part of death. Like sometimes I think about what goes on through someone's head right before they know they're about to die of something horrific. I doubt their life flashes before their eyes. In nightmares before I think I'm gonna die, I always just feel icy with shock. I can't think other than holy **** this is terrifying. And then it passes and I'm okay. Maybe that's how death will be too. Hopefully just a fleeting emotion of terror and then calmness. :3

BubblyShell22 04-22-2015 05:02 PM

I'm more afraid of how I'll die than anything else. If I could choose, I'd choose to die peacefully in my sleep of old age, but that's usually not how it works. But I agree with Jeff that I'd gladly take a bullet for someone if I had to.

senpai 04-22-2015 11:44 PM

Psssh. You're brave. I never wanna die of old age. My grandma is 84 and getting around just looks so painful and she could barely do anything on her own.

Peanut 04-23-2015 12:04 AM

I've thought about it a lot and really mulled it over in my mind for years. At some point I came to realize that the crippling fear I get from the thought of death isn't actually about me dying, it's that my mind can't handle the thought of eternity. Eternity is f*cking insane and terrifying on so many levels.

senpai 04-23-2015 12:11 AM

Peanut, do you mean eternity in the afterlife? Or eternity of nothingness? Or eternity of reincarnation?

Slade 04-23-2015 12:13 AM

I'd say eternity in general.

A human mind can't grasp that concept. Or isn't supposed to I think

Peanut 04-23-2015 12:15 AM

Completely divorced from my consciousness, humanity, religion, space and science. The entire concept of eternity itself. It's the kind of mind-warping stuff I've always imagined the characters in HP Lovecraft stories learn the reality of as they're driven insane by whatever unknown horror they've faced.
