Simpsons Episode Featuring TMNT

If you saw tonight's Simpsons, there was a scene where TMNT came out of a mock birthday cake!

oldmanwinters 05-03-2015 07:30 PM

What's a "mock birthday cake?"

Can you get a screenshot or clip from that?

Wow, The Simpsons are in their 26th season... and it took them this long to FINALLY do a TMNT reference! *sai* :trolleye: The kids' reaction really says it all at this point.

I remember watching an episode from the earliest seasons and Bart saying "Cowabunga!". At the time, I thought it was a TMNT reference, but turns out it wasn't after all.

It's also been used on Howdy Doody. Let's not forget the Cookie Monster!

David Wise always attributed "Cowabunga!" to this Peanuts strip:

As for Turtle references in other media, who else remembers the TMNT reference in Ducktales: The Treasure of the Lost Lamp?
Spoiler:
After Merlock sends Scrooge and company to their "doom" at the hands of the giant scorpions, in an attempt to protect themselves, Launchpad and the boys cut the teathers on the giant backet that holds Collie Baba's treasure. Once they finish Launchpad exclaims, "IT'S TURTLE TIME!" and one of the boys replies with, "QUACK-A-BUNGA."

Always makes me laugh.

OMG, that part made me cringe... even when I was a kid!

How do you know it isn't? Even it the word is older, but maybe it was when TMNT was very popular (late 1980s-early 1990s) so the Simpsons screenwriter decided to add a TMNT reference?

BubblyShell22 05-13-2015 02:47 PM

That's interesting. I didn't watch it as I believe I was watching something else at the time, but that's cool.

I think I know the episode you're talking about. It the statue episode. Matt Groening jokes on the audio commentary that Turtles stole Cowabunga from them. At least I think he's joking.
