Ectomobile the GB equivalent of the Batmobile?
There's this discussion on imdb about there being too many superhero movies and it turned into someone saying the Ghostbusters are superheros and the Ectomobile is the same difference as the Batmobile.
I and others disagreed. Giving the obvious reasons it's not but this person still insists it is because the Ectomobile has pke tracking and a ghost trapping feature (in the game, have not played it but it's considered canon which is fine not the point). It's seriously one of the most ridiculous things I've read online. That over two features it's in the same league of weaponry as the Batmobile, one of which is basically just tracking in terms of the pke. Even saying the Ghostbusters are superheroes is pretty dumb. Just because they fight other worldly villains with special gear makes them superheroes to this person. Super being the operative word. They're heroes but not super. |
Of course it's like the Batmobile. They're specialized vehicles associated with special people.
And is Batman not a superhero to you...? |
Is the Turtle Van the TMNT version of the Batmobile? Yes, because it's a specialized vehicle for a team of do-gooders. Ecto-1 is totally the same animal.
|
Wildcat, you are wrong about everything in your post.
|
Lol what? The Ectomobile is the same in terms of being a special vehicle to its drivers and of course they're iconic.
Seriously though...The the Batmobile and everything it can do is comparable and of the same difference as the Ectomobile? The Batmobile?! Yes I consider Batman a superhero for the most part. Though you could argue he's a regular guy who created his stuff. He has no "superpowers". I've heard others mention this. The turtle van , in any version, is much closer to the Batmobile. It has guns and armor and such. It's a rolling weapon. This a fair comparison. The Ectomobile...no. |
|
Ha, well i agreed about the turtle van(s).
If you all really think they're the same difference that's fine. I just wanted to see anyone else thought this because I've never heard anything comparing to the batmobile with all its outrageous abilities. |
Well, doesn't it kind of depend on WHICH Bat-mobile we're even talking about? Is this the Adam West one, Tim Burton's, Nolan's, TAS, or the comics? There are too many to judge.

The fire power, armor, driving on buildings etc. The tumbler is basically a tank on wheels and Keaton's was like a swiss-army knife of gizmos. You can include TAS too I guess. I know they fight different things. I mean in terms of same-difference which is what the person was saying. That it's of the same level of machine. |

The Ghostbusters are so totally super-heroes. What do YOU call a team of specialized experts using high-tech weaponry to protect our world from inter-dimensional cross-rips that would unleash the hordes of Hell? Seems pretty super-hero-ish to me.
And duh, the Ecto-1/Ecto-1A is their Batmobile. Sometimes it's even got a little chair on top where a guy can sit and shoot lasers. Seems pretty reckless and irresponsible, but the toys and the 1980s board game box art will back me up that it's a thing that they did. Regardless, so awesome. It's been my life's dream to one day own a working replica of that car. I know of people who have done so and it makes me want to eat them, and then become them. Because I want to drive the Ecto-1 to work. |
what Leo said.

Ok so before this topic and all this time you guys really, genuinely regarded the Ghostbusters as part of the superhero genre? Like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Avengers, Justice League, Fantastic 4, X-men etc.?
I just consider them heroes. Paranormal investigators who invented ghost hunting weapons. Another example is the Men in Black. They fight aliens and use high tech weapons but the Agents aren't superhuman. I love the Ectomobile but PKE (which also comes in a handheld version obviously) and being able to catch a ghost is hardly comparable to everything the Batmobile is. I'm not even a hardcore Batman fan. I like GB way more but the Batmobile is just a far more elaborate machine. There's no getting around that. If I install a tracking device to my car and mount a turret gun to my roof...am I suddenly in a car equivalent to the Batmobile? |
You're difficult.
|
So....because the Batmobile is more "functional" than the Ecto-1 it somehow negates the fact that it is the vehicle of a heroic team?
Ok.... |
Can the batmobile catch ghosts?

The Batmobile can not catch ghosts...and the Ecto can not drive on a rooftop. Their actual ability is not the point. The argument was...The Ectomobile is of the same level of resourcefulness as the Batmobile. That it is clearly not. If this was true it'd have more than 1 ghost related weapon, the power to crash through a wall, or drive on a building, super speed...and maybe even "eject" into a separate form (Batcycle/Raphs Go-cart) Are they equally important to their drivers? Yes. Do they both have an assortment of abilities to aid them on the streets? No. |
Ecto-1 can literally make the villains of its universe disappear in one fell swoop, whereas the Batmobile is a means to elude, escape, etc. I'd say making fothermuckers go bye-bye to the seventh layer of hell is far more resourceful than an oil slick mechanism or whatever. Besides, Ecto-1 has plenty more functions in the cartoons, comics, & video games, some of which sharing the film series' universe, making those functions canon...
Get over iiiiiit. |
I think "You're difficult" was Post of the Year so far, quite frankly.

Okay, so by your logic, Iron-Man is also not a superhero, because he's not "super" human. He doesn't NEED to be, because he has created the tools to do what most other superheroes do using their powers. Neither is Batman himself, by that argument. Just a rich guy with a brilliant mind who has WAAAY too much time on his hands, and some serious mental issues. The MIB's defend against alien threats with tech WAAY beyond what is available/known on Earth, so- yeah. Superheroes all the way, man. The GB's are no different. They defend people from things that most folks can't deal with. Like, I dunno, the ghosts of dead Carpathian tyrants who try to resurrect themselves by taking over the bodies of helpless infants. Or ancient gods who decide to start up the end of the world through a giant marshmallow man. Stuff that NORMAL people can't even HOPE to handle!! Quote:
Actually, YES, it DOES. Ecto has more than JUST the PKE and bigger proton pack weapon. We just don't see most of it. I know it also carries spares of all their gear, serves as a mobile base with all the miscellaneous equipment Ray and Egon felt like installing, and also can be used to "attract" ghosts. (If I recall the cartoon right. I seem to remember an episode where they were driving it around getting ghosts to follow it.) Ecto doesn't NEED those other abilities- it's intended to assist in the GBs' job- catching GHOSTS/DEMONS, which are usually incorporeal and/or capable of possessing humans, throwing objects around, or other activities that most of Batman's villains can't do. Ecto is a weapon itself, Ie, it has it's own portable containment unit, as well as "souped-up" versions of their normal gear. That's all it NEEDS to do. Not drive up walls, go super speed (Which is actually pretty ridiculous for a vehicle driving in New York, anyway- traffic ALONE would make that impossible! To say nothing of the lay-out and size of most city streets....), and the like. Quote:
