Raph's bad knees?

I was studying the way each turtle was designed and Raph seems a little banged up. Every turtle seems to wear the same amount of gear based on their weapons etc., but nothing extra. Except for Raph.

He has extra wraps going around his knees and under his kneepads. Any theories for this? My imagination says it has something to do with that crack in his plastron. I doubt the crack will ever be examined by the cartoon but it'd make sense to group the crack and the knee braces together.

Or maybe I'm just over thinking the design :tlol: Either way, its fun to speculate. Thoughts?

P.S. This should probably go in the Nick section. I honestly thought I was already there when I posted!

I can't say I've noticed. If he has damaged knees a bit of extra wadding ain't gonna help much and he should probably lay off the yoko geris. More likely he is just cooler than his brothers and going for the layered look :P

I can't see him having bad knees and being able to fight the way he does. Most likely, he just does it that way because it looks cool.

I thought Ciro mentioned that they were going to do an ep explaining his chipped plastron...

Brandon Auman also said they'd do an story line on it in TMNT: The Ultimate visual history.

I had asked him about the chances of seeing a weapons origin (i.e. Having the Turtles receiving their weapons) and he just said "I guess you'll just need to keep watching. ;)" Which is pretty much means 'I can't tell you because of spoilers, but yes that is something we are planning.'

From my observation, Raph was polishing his sai too much in his bedroom so his knees are sore now.

If your going to make inappropriate jokes at least make them funny and at least somewhat logical.

How is it inappropriate and illogical if the show did the joke just a few episodes ago?

He actually said Raph was "wanking" not "polishing his sai". Venom edited his post because it was inappropriate. It's illogical because " polishing your sai " a lot won't hurt your knees at all.

Knock it off with the innuendo please...

marcelangelo 08-08-2015 04:43 AM

to be fair..'polishing you sai often' won't hurt your KNEES either..unless he was doing it while standing on his knees...
edit:..or unless 'knees' is also slang for something else..uh, okay, Ill stop this....:)

"Stop the innuendo, please."
- immediately keeps going with the innuendo -

This thread is hilarious.

Seriously though... as much as I would love the writers to acknowledge that the turtles have probably encountered all sorts of injuries in their training over the years, I highly doubt we'll get that level of detail. I know Brandon Auman said this and that about cracked plastrons and anger issues but I really don't hold out much hope for any of the depth / thoughtfulness required to address that particular issue.

The funny thing is, I've been watching this show for years and never noticed it. I have a guy doing a 3D model for me of Raph from the Nick show and he added the knee wrappings. I was going to tell him to remove them because I didn't think they were supposed to be there but sure enough there they are on the actual model.

"For years?" The Nick show just started, you're acting like its 10 years old or something.

It started 3 years ago. That technically counts as "years".

Yeah, his comment is ridiculous. What I said wasn't wrong so I fail to see what the problem is.

Bombshell 08-09-2015 05:02 AM

I'd have to disagree on how he'd be unable to practice and fight the way he does on weakened knees. The are plenty of athletes that wear braces on joints for support because of a previous injuries and they perform well.

I guess "damaged" was a poor word to use.
