Official Ep Discussion: S3 Ep22: "The Creeping Doom"

So, we go from hardcore historical episode, to toilet humored free for all to another "Mikey did something stupid and the others will suffer for it".

Photographic memory's great unless you only use it to memorize nasty pizza toppings that would send the most cynical food inspector screaming for their life.

So something will happen to Donatello, and he's going to turn into a less than intelligent shadow of his former self. Basically... a purple masked Mikey.

God help us all...

STAY TUNED!

Spoiler:
Can we please get another plot in season 3 where Michelangelo doesn't act like an idiot for sake of the plot?

Spoiler:
That's kinda there go to plot devices at times for him, just like anger and Raph needing to control it/it being some form of issue for him.

Lol at electric swampaloo. Ive always said any movie not smart enough to come up with a better title than repeating the first one and adding part 2 must have the subtitle electric boogalo to advertise their lazieness

Yeah I know but luckily i've only seen a few and I reblogged a couple of them.

Besides Mikey being an idiot in the beginning, I actually enjoyed this episode a lot more than I thought I would. It was definitely filler, but it was good filler. Loved the idea of Creepweed and I loved the fact that while the episode was Donnie focused, it still gave the other Turtles a decent amount of screentime, especially Raph. Raph got more focus than Leo in this one, so that was great to see!

I need to explain myself with something I posted a while back to explain why I was annoyed a moment ago with Mikey:

I don't think Mikey is dumb in the Nick show, but his characterization is one of the more off putting things in the series. Sometimes he's hilarious (The Olympics!), sometimes he's a bada** (Dimension X episodes), sometimes he's perfect for emotion (The Invasion and Leatherhead come to mind), but he has his fair share of stupidity. Due to him lacking substantial growth like Raphael in the show, Michelangelo always flips from likable to just untolerable.

I'd like Mikey to mature more, he can still be a goofball but has a lot of potential to grow. It almost went well following the Invasion, but the Croaking screwed him up.

I don't get why we have to dumb him down in the incarnations, he can be serious and funny. He's arguably the weakest character yet due to his age (and the fact he acts like Beast Boy from Teen Titans due to having Greg Cipes as the va), but it leaves a lot to be desired.

I personally think you can go beyond a simple trait for Mikey and Raph in the show, it's just never done. When it does though, it's excellent. Granted it's the end of the season, but just felt a little weak to end these four episodes from this month air with this after two strong episodes and Godzilla.

Spoiler:
Also, called it on Creep and Snakeweed! :)

Overall didn't like this episode, the best part was the when Donnie came and saved the day. So I guess the last 7/8 minutes were good!

I'm not spoiler tagging anything, if you come to this thread without expecting to see talk of the episode's content, you're a dummy.

Anyway, THAT WAS FRIGGIN' GREAT! My two favorite villains not only teamed up but combined! Woo! Idiot Donnie was hilarious, as expected, Rob did a great job with the goofing off. Surprised there wasn't a Pinky reference, but it's alllll goooood. I like that everyone was a part of this episode, nice character balance, even Splinter, April, & ICK got their moments. CREEPWEED THO! What a sick design! All around awesome episode.

kelligrafie 08-23-2015 09:38 AM

Goldmutant, I think it could possibly be because there's so many writers, how can you begin to maintain any real consistency with Mikey's development?

You'll have writers that go totally off the wall goofball with him because that's how they assume he's always been, and some that will have done their research and decided to mature him a bit.

IndigoErth 08-23-2015 09:40 AM

Rather fun episode. Seemed knocks against Mikey's intelligence was a bit predictable, and a little overplayed... but decent episode though. Donnie... Although my fave part was prob when he showed up back to normal and destroyed the enemy. :tcool: But a lil' lost on the whole "Mikey's antidote worked" bit... sooo it made him stupider for a while before it kicked in?

Raph... did you really volunteer to be hit by the Creep? And Leo... ouch, he's gonna be sore tomorrow.

The periscope thingy in the lair, was that the first time we've seen it actually used?

(For a moment I was expecting that something cheesy like April kisses him would snap him back to normal...)

I heard that Raph was maskless in this episode. :D

yellowmario27 08-23-2015 09:49 AM

Did any one catch what Donnie said at the episode that causes Mikey to lunge after him?
A family member started talking loudly during the end 😕

Granted, I did act on instinct. Great, just as impulsive as Raph is me. I screwed up again, just didn't think carefully. Just get annoyed when Mikey screws up, but I will say he was great again by the end. :)

Anyways, two episodes of Mikey in a row? That I love, first the awesome side from last episode and some caring developments to his family this episode. If I can say this, I personally wished Donnie could have referenced any of his previous roles barring the Wizard of Oz reference. Now, just bring back the Newtrailzer and possibly Mutagen Man and I will say most of the new characters/interpretations I'm satisfied in returning.

Barring the Donnie issue, if only it were longer, that concept at the end was cool, I really would have loved that. (Though I wish Snakeweed talked this time, though probably just a clone) Fun episode overall, just wished more Dumb Donnie could have been done.

And once more, apologies for my reckless snapping.

I think Donnie stated to Mikey that now he knows how he (Mikey) feels all the time.
