How do I recognize clearly a soft head figure - without opening?
I have a MOC Leonardo 10-back and I ask myself if it is a softhead? The body is glossy, head & arms are mat, but the legs are not uniformly, one is more glossy, one is more mat. Maybe just a weired exemplar? How would a grader find out? Are there otherwise signs?
Tried to get it on pics: http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/...pscidd80hr.jpg http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/...psminwys7n.jpg http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/...psp1vgkpcv.jpg http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/...psrokghbvj.jpg |
look for a seam going around his head where the 2 molds came together in the plastic injection process. you can also tell if his head is a glossy color its a hard head, the soft heads have a dull green. also the soft head figures came with a flyer under the weapons rack for the fan club
to me that looks like a hard head figure |
definitely a soft head
IDK how I know that I guess its the paint and the shade and the way it looks compared to the other body tones but its definitely a soft head |
Go ninja is correct, check for the seams, but that's a hard head, and soft heads came with and without fan club flyers,

The seam is there, so it's a hard head. The head, arms and legs are all the same plastic, and were probably the same in look as the body at one point, they have just changed color over time due to deterioration.
Another thing that gives it away as a hard head is its specularity/shininess. |
It's not the best example, as my hardhead is a 25th anniversary figure. But you can see the seam on the hardhead's head and how the rubber head differs from the rest of the body, not just in color difference but also in a overall dullness over the shiny plastic.
And the Softhead do have a more yellow plastron then a warm orange, which is true even compared with a vintage hardhead. http://orig14.deviantart.net/b91e/f/...pa-d9zd2bq.jpg http://orig03.deviantart.net/ae80/f/...pa-d9zd2b9.jpg |
Thank you all ! The case is closed.
