Official Ep Discussion S4 Ep 14: Earth's Last Stand

"It's the end of the world every day, for someone" -Margaret Atwood

After thirteen episodes involving space adventures, new characters of old and reinterpretations, romance..... and beautiful animation, the time has come. Truly the time has come for the Earth to stand strong as it's the final countdown in a race against time. With the confirmation of the past and present joining forces by IGN not too long ago, it's a pure race to the end to save the Earth to prevent repeated history. However, something seems amiss for our heroes in a half shell attempting to stop the Triceratons.

What events will transpire for everyone? Will history be altered with a confirmed death of someone? Can the space arc end on a high note after another major divide in reception? Only one way to find out if this is truly Earth's Last Stand.

Brace yourselves everyone, we're almost done with space! :)

Can a mod sticky this please.

It's now up on ITunes and spoilers started appearing on Tumblr and i'm trying to avoid them.

KrN 04-24-2016 01:40 AM

I feel your pain ): I'm from Australia and it won't work, either.

It's not up on Nick.com just yet. Do they upload episodes closer to the air date, or afterwards?

Was trying to avoid tumblr for potential spoilers but I'm way too excited!

Previously they uploaded the mid season finale and season final a week early but not this time but I expect it's because they were 2 part episodes.

If Fugitoid 'dies' will he say the infamous, "I don't wanna go" line?

CyberCubed 04-24-2016 02:28 AM

Hopefully the critically acclaimed space arc has a well done finale.

Vicky you can watch it you know where :D It was an intense episode :o

Spoiler:
Two days ago I wrote this on the season 4 thread:
"I bet it will be Fugitoid.
I really doubt Splinter dies again, and I don't see the turtles dying in this show (altought I would love to watch the IDW 44 issue happening).
Or maybe the one who "dies" is Leo, staying unconscious while he's floating in the space, but the others manage to get him and reanimate him on time".

.....

At the end both things happened XDD

There's something I didn't understand here:
Spoiler:
Someone who finished to watch the episode. Can explain how the time travel works in this show? Because I dont understand how that final scene with the ship can happen.

cookie jar 04-24-2016 03:35 AM

It was a decent episode.

It's a temporal change.

Due to the going back in time, there were temporal copies of the Turtles, April, and Casey back on earth. And because of that, there were two versions of the Professor because Bishop contacted him after his body was destroyed.

The previous Honeycutt, took the original turtles back in time so they could obtain and destroy the heart of darkness. A device which he had created, and was plagued with guilt about. Since the heart of Darkness was destroyed this go round they couldn't have two versions of the same characters on the same planet. So the temporal copies went on a trip to explore the cosmos with the Fugatoid, this time, it's a more relaxed journey rather than being saddled with the stress of preventing Earth destruction (possible spin-off fodder). Then the ending moment was indicating that even though Honeycutt sacrificed himself, his brain is still alive. So it is possible that Donnie could eventually restore him by creating a braincase that could fit in metalhead, and making him the New Metalhead.

Vicky82 04-24-2016 03:46 AM

OMG!!!!!! that was awesome and intense. I did get a little tearier.

I was right about Fugitoid's secret.

So The Character death was.

Spoiler:
Leo (for like 2 minutes) and Fugitoid (until the end). Also the Triceratons if you count them

I was a little disappointed that Mikey didn't hug Leo, it was just Raph and Donnie.

KrN 04-24-2016 03:52 AM

Well, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time during that episode.

I think a lot of us predicted that Fugitoid not only built the Generator but would also be the one who would destroy it - himself included. Even though I completely related to Leonardo's outburst and why he would feel so betrayed by the secret kept by Fugitoid, it still upset me to see him sacrifice himself like that. Love you, Fugidude.

Is it just me or is Leo's patience wearing thin lately? He seems to be much more volatile and irritable this season. Things might change now that the Space arc is over and a great deal of his worries are finally over. Shout-out to Raph for calling Leo out on not leading the team though. As a Leo fan, I enjoy his one-man missions but seriously, equal screen time and development for each turtle please. And while I'm ranting about development, can Casey find another word to say after a sentence other than 'Yo'? Or, hey, just stop talking.

Was anyone else's heart racing when the shot of Splinter running with Shredder right behind him popped up? Because I thought mine was going to slam out of my chest. Talk about intense... but of course, Space Leo had just enough time to warn Splinter and my anxiety greatly decreased when he broke? Shredder's arm.

"I knew you were a snake, but stopping me from saving the world?"
"It is because of you that Karai is gone!"

Hey, two Karai references in one, cool. On some level I do understand Shredder's motives and why he does what he does but my god, he is so far beyond redemption that it makes me seriously question if he's genuinely insane or not. What sense is there in sacrificing the world - his daughter - to get revenge? Which is the age old question for this guy, but still... If his reasoning for not wanting to miss the opportunity to kill Splinter is Karai, then why not put off your damn vendetta until the world is saved and you have her back? I have praised Shredder for not being a one dimensional villain that is just evil to be evil and actually have some depth and reasons for being the way he is - I don't know if he's just lost the plot since Karai found out his little secret, but damn... check your priorities, Shredhead.

All in all, I genuinely enjoyed this episode - I have for quite a lot of the Space episodes, to be honest. I think my expectations were lower than they were for North Hampton (which sorely disappointed me. So much opportunity wasted on more mutants-of-the-week) so even though I was antsy to get back to Earth, it was a good arc! It's sort of obvious what season 5's arc will be and damn, am I excited for that one.

Until then - I shall enjoy being back in New York!

Earth's Last Stand // 8.9

Redworld96 04-24-2016 04:27 AM

Spoiler:
What I don’t get is how 2 leos, 2 donnies, 2 mikeys, 2 raphs, 2 aprils and 2 caseys can co-exist in the same universe and in the same time after the BHG was destroyed.

I mean, during all the space travel it makes sense because they were in the past. But in the exact moment when Fugitoid #2 sacrifies himself and kills the triceratons, they’re not in the past anymore, they’re now in the present.

Then I thought the group of the past would just dissapear forever, letting the space group to be on earth. But it seems that the Fugitoid #1 takes the group #1 to search adventures …..

In other words, they have now “twins” who are travelling in space. That group can actually come back to earth, or stays on another planet, a lot of possibilities ...
I see it illogical, really. Because there should be only one same person in the same universe.
Besides, I have always wondered this:

If I travel in the past, and my other me of the past gets killed, I would die too?

This issue remains me the Mirai Nikki anime, and it’s really confusing

Tarris Vaal 04-24-2016 04:45 AM

Spoiler:
Technically they are in the past until right after they leave Earth and go back in time. So having 2 groups briefly together does bear out ok - except that in theory they should have been there first time around as well which means....

....they've technically caused a wobble in pre existing events as the 'past' turtles now aren't affected by the BHG and Splinter's death as those events didnt occur.
Which then means they dont have the urgency they did before, which means they are much more likely to fail in their mission. Which would then explain why they aren't around to help in the next attempt which then means that the urgency returns for the turtles prior to them... and so on....

So in theory, every 'other' group of turtles succeeds to change the timeline and save Earth/Splinter. And their success causes the next group to fail, which causes the next to succeed.....

Isn't time travel fun? :)

Anyway great episode :) Though I am a little bit disappointed they didn't follow through on one aspect
Spoiler:
Splinter

CyberCubed 04-24-2016 04:48 AM

This was a great episode.

But yeah, our Turtles are technically in the "past" now. While the ones off in space are their past selves. So wouldn't they come back from their space adventures too at some point?

Its kinda weird, there's two sets of Turtles and April/Casey now. I don't know how they're going to deal with this later.

I assume they go back in time too.

Just think it's now possible for April to date both Donnie and Casey and it be legit.

Don't tell tumblr/deviantart I just said that.
