what do you think about Dregg?

I know, guys, we have already discussed that topic but...
Dregg who appeared in the last two seasons?
Why don't you like him? Why is he not popular?
I was thinking... if there were no Shredder in the show, would you like Dregg?
And who was stronger? Shredder and Krang or Dregg?

He sucks. Wrong forum btw.

Why wrong?
What forum did I have to choose?
I thought that I had to choose general TMNT discussion

Ok replacement villain. I guess since they turned the show into a more serious one Shredder wasn't very believable bad guy.

Reznorite420 10-08-2003 06:45 AM

The only thing I didn't like about Dregg was that THEY DIDN'T MAKE HIM INTO AN ACTION FIGURE!!!!!!

My thoughts on Dregg...*large farting noise*

How is this topic in the wrong forum? Anyway . . .

To answer your question, Lanagirl, the reason most people around here don't care much for Lord Dregg is because he replaced Shredder and Company. For eight years, the storylines had centered around the Turtles trying to prevent Shredder and Krang from taking over the world.

In Season 9, Dregg just showed up out of nowhere while Shredder and Krang were tossed onto the collective junk heap of things that had grown stale with the show. But even Dregg himself was not so much an original character.

1. Dregg was kind of like Shredder and Krang rolled into one.

2. The Technogang and, later, the Batmen (or whatever the heck those stupid things were) were cheap ripoffs of the Foot Soldiers.

3. Dregg's assistant, Mung, was an imitation of Shredder's assistant, Baxter Stockman.

4. The Dreggnaut was like the Technodrome, only it could fly.

5. And so on, and so forth . . .

The trashing of classic characters to make way for recycled new ones is when many people think the original cartoon "jumped the shark." Meaning, the writers did it to shake up the show and boost sagging ratings. This process had already been set into motion the previous season, and it was mildly successful since Shredder and Krang were still part of the cartoon.

Dregg started off as a halfway interesting character, in that he came to Earth looking for gold. He wanted to loot the entire planet of it. But after the Turtles thwart his plans, the quest that was Shredder and Krang's -- destroy the Turtles and conquer the Earth -- becomes his. Then it's just one recycled story after the other.

Much to the show's credit (and Dregg's character), the storylines were significantly improved in Season 10, the final season. Shredder and Krang were brought back, as was Krang's android body, the Technodrome, and Dimension X. It was a nice bit of nostalgia, a sweet glimpse into the past of what the show used to be about.

In the end, Dregg was "finished off" by the Turtles. And in what can only be thought of as ironic, the Turtles accomplished this by using Krang's android body. It wasn't a great series finale for the cartoon, but it was pretty satisfying nonetheless.

Never really cared for Dregg personally... Shredders pwnz all over Dregg.

Closet-case homo... Actually, he was obsessed with himself. That's even messed-up'er! The thing that REALLY ticked people off about him was that he was almost able to dstroy Shredder and Krang in season 10. Making Shredder and Krang seem so easily taken care of when the turtles had to struggle to get even close made me mad. He was fairly lame before that though.

Hmm...i dont remember dregg...whats he look like? Does anyone have a pic?

tormentedvagrant 10-08-2003 01:20 PM

I think if dregg had been seen in the comic book he would have appealed to more hard core fans. I personaly like mung........ the nano bots were a nice touch too, but over used emensly!

MW8979 10-08-2003 01:55 PM

As was stated before, the chief problem with Dregg is that he's really nothing original, just yet another alien trying to take over the world with his magic rays. What sets him apart (and below) from Shredder and Krang, is that he completely lacks the charisma possessed by the previous villains. He is extremely cliched and boring.

Obvously, the original villains were also predictable, but they had a few good things going for them. Number one, Shredder's master ninja skills, as well as his posturing and theatrics. His dialogue and body movements usually helped immensely when creating an atmosphere of action/threat. Number two, Krang's ingenuity to make anything out of anything, coupled with his constant "as if they were married" bantering with Shredder, made for some good comedic lines every episode. There's more to the story, but this is basically the kernel of what made the Technodrome gang so appealing.

It would've been better if Shredder and Krang had beaten Dregg and been stuck on earth for the remainder of season 10 in the season 10 3 parter. Dregg was just a way to get rid of Shredder and Krang cause they had a reputation for being humorous. Stupid Dregg, all of your plans sucked.

:( I wasn't gay-bashing. I was simply admiting that Dregg seems to uninterested in ladies, and too interested in himself to NOT be gay. What's wrong with that? Regardless of the answer, please forgive me. I didn't mean to upset anybuddy.
