Can someone pinpoint when Raphael became the muscle?

In most incarnations he was always the aggressive type, sure. But I don't seem to recall when he explicitly became known as the brute of the team.

When did this happen, exactly?

The 2k3 series, I imagine? He was always portrayed as the most physically strong in that series.

The Raphael Mirage special began it, with him a split second away from braining Michelangelo with a pipe. The first movie underscored it. 2K3 continued it. By the time of TMNT 2007 "Angry Raph" was well, well established.

As far as an all-out brute? That's just a PD thing.

I'd go so far as to say the first panel of the first book is what plants the seeds of Raph being the bruiser of the crew.

He's the only one that gets described in Leo's opening narration.

You might be right with that. Though maybe Next Mutation as well, if I remember correctly.

Oh I know 'Angry Raph' has always been a constant. I was moreso wondering where his "he's the strongest" shtick came in. Does anyone have the RPG stats to look up? I'm at work for another 9 hours or so.

Don't have the books on me at the moment, but there's this breakdown from a 'Drome thread from 2005.
