TGRI?

I've just seen Secrets of The Ooze for the first time. It was pretty good, though what bothered me (Apart from the absence of Casey Jones) was the initals of the reserch company: TGRI. Wasn't it TCRI, for Tactical Cosmos Reserch Inistitute? I suppose some must have misread the C as G or something.

Mecha Cow 11-23-2003 06:08 AM

It was TCRI in the comics, and TGRI in SotO.

Can't think of a good reason why they changed it, though, since i don't quite remember what TCRI stands for.

If the C did stand for Cosmos, I can see why they changed it to a G, for Global.

It was Techno Global Research Institute (or Incorporated or something like that). I remember because April says it in a very unprofessional all-in-one-breath-way. They probably changed it because TCRI suggests stars and aliens and stuff and TGRI didn't have anything to do with that.

Splinter 11-23-2003 09:16 AM

It was changed from Techno Cosmic Research Institute to Techno Global Research Institute, because they couldn't include the Utroms for budgetary reasons. There is a cut or unfilmed scene, where Professor Jorden Perry after he recovers the cannister of ooze, ducks into a closet and opens his shirt up. Inside his stomache is a Utrom, and he hands the cannister to it. Laird and others have spoken about it. :)

One of the reasons we've heard for the change was that there was actually a company that went by TCRI at the time.

That would be a cool scene to see. Do know how to see it?

Tactical Global Research Inistitute? Hmm, I was begining to think the G stood for Galactic.

Didn't watch the movie that closely then, did ya? :)

Jarrah White 11-23-2003 03:13 PM

I watched the whole film except it was late and I was constantly interupted by my Ma!

J Legault 11-23-2003 03:21 PM

I notice that it was change from TCRI to TGRI. I have no clue what the reason for that was. Not unless the company didn't want to include any utroms in the movie. Or new Line just change it from alien owned company to a regular radation company.

Atleast we know the true TCRI would always be in mirage and the new show.

Woah! That would have totally ROCKED! Also would have made Secret Of The Ooze a whole lot more interesting too...I always assumed the professor destroyed the ooze and got out of town...had no idea he was more than what he seemed. They shoulda kept it...hmmm but it then it would have raised a whole lot more question that never woulda been answered in the next movie and obviously they didn't intend to.

Deathknight 11-23-2003 07:18 PM

No, what should've happend is the Shredder shouldn't have used the Ooze to mutate himself and killed himself and came back in the 3rd movie instead of the turtles going back in time. :D

course, a million lil kiddies would be like hey that's KRANG!! And we'd still be explaining who to them who the Utroms were on these very boards. LOL

Jephael 11-24-2003 10:21 PM

That is true, you know. One of the biggest reasons they had to scrap the Utrom scenario was Krang's presence in the cartoon would've had us confused (I know I would've been)

No, it would have been like the Utroms in the new show and the comic. A brain like alien in the chest cavity of Professor Jorden Perry's body. But I don't believe it was ever filmed. And if it was, it was never completed. :)
