Super jazzed. I hope it's awesome.....

Anybody been watching that animated thing on Adult Swim? What's the deal with that? Any good or what?
|
So the show is happening:

There may be a year long delay on this due to the WGA strike

Michelle Yeoh joins. Also, it appears to be entirely female-led.

Yikes. |
boy I'm excited for this, but have zero gauge right now whether this is going to enhance the franchise or ruin it utterly.

Could they pander with the casting a little harder, maybe?
Top comment on the trailer says it all- "Brought to you by the very same people the films warn you about" |
The premise sounds preposterous. The replicants rose up and won a war against mankind? That doesn't even make sense. It's like something a child would come up with for a Blade Runner sequel.
|
So with this premise, I guess they're ignoring the four year lifespan and the other failsafes?

Also, maybe the replicants didn't "win the war against HUMANITY" as much as whatever uprising that was hinted at near the end of 2049 resulted in a victory. Basically, regardless of the modern-idiot-lens, the "Civil War" wasn't fought against 'all white people'. I imagine the same for the "Replicant Civil War" - not fought against ALL of humanity. |

They've definitely "fan filmed" the 2049 vibe, which is great but I don't know if Michelle Yeogh is really the right person to carry this show.
Just not going to know until it's out. Basically the trailer looks good but that's because it's built on the skeleton of the 2049 DNA-presentation, not because the through line or characters look great. |
It's kind of the opposite of a lot of shows and movies these days where the casting is great but the story is sh**. In this, the casting is sh** and the story SEEMS to be OK, or potentially OK.
I do like that we're finally getting what appears to be a significant outer space element. All that talk about "the shoulder of Orion" and "Tannhauser Gate" and all that, we may finally see it all. |
It would be really interesting to get some clear "Soldier" references or something akin to "Universe building" but not such a stretch that it violates the "Blade Runner" nature.
Ironically, they will need to explain what has become of the "blade runner" profession given the nature of the replicant uprising. Also very curious as to how they incorporate Deckard and Rachel given that they are clearly the through line that Villaneuve so wisely ran with. This could abandon that too much. |
