Nick's 2023 TMNT plans revealed

You guys need to visit twitter sometime, this place is slow:

The 2023 Seth Rogen CG movie will be followed up by direct-to-streaming movies about TMNT villains debuting on Paramount Plus. I assume from the same universe as the new film, but it's hard to tell based on wording.

No news on a new cartoon yet, but I get the feeling something based on the 2023 movie might happen especially if it's a hit.

So you’re saying a new cartoon isn’t likely?:D

So... Rogen's movie will have a bunch of different villains? Is that the takeaway here?

The Deadman 02-15-2022 03:39 PM

So we're getting a TMNT cinematic universe of sorts? I'm interested.

Obviously Shredder would probably get his own movie on Paramount+, But which other TMNT villains they also can do? My money's on a Bebop and Rocksteady movie as well.

Baxter Stockman, Krang and Dimension X etc.

It's an interesting idea and conceptually some of TMNT's villains you could easily craft interesting stories around...but if this is going to be in the same continuity as Rogen's movie we'll have to wait and see what kinda tone that movie goes for. Like you could totally do a great in depth Mirage-based story about Oroku Saki's journey into becoming the Shredder...but if it's based on the Fred Wolf version were he's just a dick who pins Yoshi to the wall to get his position then I aint interested.

Then there's the bigger question of whether TMNT really has the popularity to have spin off characters. It's like Sony's insistence on making an adjacent Spider-Man universe when other than Venom no one is really interesting in Spider-Man villains on their own.

NinjaPug 02-15-2022 04:03 PM

Yeah that sounds like every big Fred Wolf villain will be in the Rogen movie and they’ll get their own follow-up movie

Based on the phrasing it might be that at least one/a few will be supplemental stories to characters that might not actually be in Rowe's movie but instead just mentioned/alluded to or even just not at all, like universe expansion.

seriously though why does everyone credit this movie and the last two to the producers despite the first four not having that distinction, let alone every other movie on the planet??

Sumac 02-15-2022 04:09 PM

15 years ago I'd be excited about possibility of TMNT multiverse...now, and especially with Rogen participation...thanks, but no thanks.

Because, people think that producers lay a bigger role in creative decisions than directors, which might be the case, due to the potential profitability of the franchise.

So we’re getting the Rogen reboot/Next Chapter movie plus a series of villains films that may or may not be related to it. Presumably they are linked but it’s not clear from the wording. Shouldn’t be surprised, they still haven’t cleared up if Rogen’s film is a full on reboot or if “The Next Chapter” subtitle means it’s a MOTU:Revelation style loose sequel. Or even if “The Next Chapter” is the official subtitle.

On the plus side it will be nice to see some different villains getting movie focus and I get that animation takes time so this will allow them to have stuff in the pipeline but after the last 2 movies this is putting the cart before the horse. Let’s get a solid movie out first before we worry about universe building.

Official concept art for the CGI movie has been released.

That is god awful if real. I’m confident that this movie could kill TMNT forever if it takes a goofy tone like that.

FredWolfLeonardo 02-15-2022 05:49 PM

Please tell me that art is a joke.

What the hell am I looking at?

The Deadman 02-15-2022 06:22 PM

Concept art isnt the same as the finished product, lets not forget that.

Kyo Hisagi 02-15-2022 06:30 PM

It... could be worse... but wth did they do to Donnie?!

CyberCubed 02-15-2022 06:33 PM

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Turtles are gay in this version.

sdp 02-15-2022 06:43 PM

TMN villains aren't Batman villains, they can't carry a movie. I mean I'm curious to see how they handle it but perhaps the TMNT show up in all of them, I don't know it could be exciting. I think this is very ambitious and I don't think it'll pay off but I'm actually curious now.

As far as the turtles, they look like Kermit but it's only concept art, it'll look much different once it's all said and done. We always knew this was going to be aimed at kids. At least they seem to be doing something new so I'll give them props for that.

CyberCubed 02-15-2022 06:50 PM

Besides Don's glasses, the Turtles designs at least feel much more normal than they were in either the 2014 movies or Rise of the TMNT. No huge Hulk Turtles with human noses, and Rises' designs were very out there.

If they dropped Don's glasses I wouldn't mind these designs. Raph with a durag doesn't bother me.
