So many covers!

Cover B is the best. I would have liked slightly more serious tone and picking up after 'Divide and Conquer' with the characters, but I will take this. It's nice to see Rat King in classic form as well as Leatherhead.

The homage is noted.

Cool to see a new cover by Dooney.

I wonder how long this series will last. They really missed the boat making these an obvious tie-in to the Cowabunga Collection and Shredder's Revenge games from last year.

Well, officially this series is an ongoing, so technically it could go on for decades if it sells well enough…

But… I doubt it'll last two years, I don't even think it'll one full year. The way I see it, those games basically sparked enough of an interest momentarily to both allow the first mini to get greenlit, as well as sell well enough to allow for this ongoing (and "perhaps" IDW's obligation to put out a childfriendly TMNT book "helped"). Though if player data on those games are anything to go by for this comparison, then the sales are going to flatline hard after a few issues.

The best case scenario I'm seeing is that this will last maybe 25 issues and then have the occasional mini set in the same continuity. The more likely scenario from my point of view is that it's cancelled around/before issue 12 and is immediately replaced with a Mutant Mayhem themed comic, if it's not just outright filler in wait to gage the reception of Mutant Mayhem and the plan having always been to replace it with a movie tie-in.

Still, as pessimistic as I am about this book actually lasting that long, I am still curious to see where all of this going. The fact that this thing is allegedly set in the FW continuity and yet half the issues feature TCRI as the center of the stories makes me wonder if there is some weird "Kevin Smith's He-Man" stipulation going on, i.e. it's meant to look like a continuation on casual inspection but has some details that exclude it from being one out of legal reasons.

How well is this series doing? I'm not sure who the target audience is supposed to be. It looks a kids' comics but based on a cartoon only 30+ remember.

This is a fun story so far. Love Raphael's line about Donnie usually having whatever smarts that the plot requires. Also really dug Jack Lawrence's half of the artwork. It's got a nice cartoony look to it.

We're the target audience of course. And the book isn't going to be more mature than the original show. Blood or strong sexual innuendos is going to go against the original tone of the show where the turtles would defeat Shredder by throwing pizza at him.

Face it, for 99% of comics, WE'RE the target audience. Kids don't read. They do Fortnite and play on their phone apps all day. Comics try to go for the new audience, but there is no new audience. We're the audience. The day we stop buying comics, it'll all go down because the 'next generation' isn't buying them.

Huh, so this actually puts TCRI in the majority of these stories so far? From the looks of it, issue 3's solicitation doesn't mention TCRI but 4's does. Issues 1 and 4 of the mini were also the the ones to not feature TCRI, so if we assume 3 has TCRI, then literally 75% of these issues are about TCRI.

Just read it, it's fine. Once again though it feels like someones idea of what the original cartoon is rather than feeling like an actual original cartoon episode.

This was a fun read. It does feel like this would be what the old show would resemble if it were updated today.
