IDW cancels the TMNTA omnibus
No real reason given. Pretty odd that they would do that especially with all the turtle stuff coming out recently.

There are others but Clownfish can get annoying at times. This guy was more to the point. The omnibus was based on the Archie comics TMNT run from the 90's. Pre-orders have been cancelled. |
I have legit never heard of this before now, and I check Penguin Random House for new TMNT pre-orders monthly.
|
Was this just going to be the previously released editions as 16 TBP's?
|
It sounds like. Based on the cover I'm thinking it was gonna be the first 3 issues based on the original 5 episodes and maybe 2-3 extra issues of the ongoing.
|
So I did some digging and I was able to find a few listings for this volume such as this: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...iGZ3EYmJp64Ghj
However I can't find anything about it being cancelled. |
It might take a bit for articles and whatnot to catch up. It seems the cancellation was announced just yesterday or so.
|
First I'd heard of it!
Considering how many essential issues they skipped due to "cultural sensitivity" or whatever, I'd hardly have an interest in an "Omnibus." Even the reprints were unimpressive in their scan/reproduction quality. |

Like I remember back then some conservative parents complained because *gasp* the comic showcased other religions and beliefs but like whatever. They didn't do a rollback or anything. The comics kept on going. Pretty much 'we're sorry you feel that way' and move on. I wish IDW had the balls. Oh no the old Archie TMNT issues offend you? 'we're sorry you feel that way' but we're still re-releasing the book. On that note I seem to recall a letter complaining about the turtles using meditation and mentioning zen. Even saying an episode of the show had Michealangelo say 'he's totally zenned out' which I don't recall ever been said. Maybe the angry parent misheard him say 'zoned out'. |
Ironic since there was probably nobody at Mirage/Archie more "woke" back in the day than Steve Murphy, but he always worked his eco/tolerance moral messages into the storyline in organic (see what I did there?) ways for the dual purpose of trying to educate readers to world-events/history AND tell an interesting narrative.
Basically, IDW skipped all issues that dealt with Islamic-themes or portrayed Muhammad in artistic representation for educational purposes. That included all issues #32-37 of the TMNTA ongoing. https://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sh...ad.php?t=50884 I think a few other things were skipped for unrelated reasons as well, maybe the back-up stories. |

Captain Planet was pretty much the 'woke' show of yesteryear, a show created solely to preach. Like it literally had cartoonish villains that whole plan was to pollute the planet they live on, just for the evil. I do remember at least one newspaper article back in the day critiquing the cartoon for not going deep enough into the actual cause of pollution, like big factories, big businesses and whatnot, and not just cackling villains doing it for evil sake. Toxic Crusaders followed that same vein, now that I remember. At least even then the bad guys had a reason to pollute, they came from a smog filled planet and needed Earth to be the same to make it hospitable for them whenever they planned to invade. I guess if you're gonna make a 'save the environment' type cartoon, that's how you do it. I never got the whole 'you can't show Muhammad in any way, shape or form' thing. I remember a South Park episode dealing with just that, Islam was pretty much gonna threaten America if they dare air some episode with Muhammad of whatever tv show the characters were watching. Like if it was such a hot button issue, why did nobody care back in the 90's when those comics were made? It's not like Muhammad was any less important as a religious figure or anything. That's like saying Jesus didn't matter in the 80's but does now. I wonder if the Archie guys got complaints or even death threats over that issue. |
Man, that Omnibus sounds so cool! ALL of Adventures in recommended reading order, INCLUDING the specials and mini-series?! Hopefully, it's just a temporary cancelation like what happened with the Batman/TMNT Omnibus because I'd definitely pick these up! (Hopefully if these DO eventually exist, they can find a better solution for the Muhammad situation. Like, alter the art or replace the offending page with a text description or something. Kinda like the Spider-Man appearance in certain reprints of Marvel's Transformers series.)

They should do the thing where there's a caption or whatever before the comic (like do it on a separate page, don't ruin the actual original pages) that says something like 'due to the pussification of modern audiences, some images or pages might offend your oversensitive feelings. please understand it was a different time before social media made everyone into a whiney cancel-happy bitch'. Maybe in not so many words, but you know what I mean.
And also... maybe just don't tell Islam about the book? I doubt they get IDW books over there anyway. **** 'em. We don't owe them ****. |
I still can't believe for all of the content IDW pumped out - both agenda and awful as well as the good - that they never released an Archie Omnibus. The money they would have pulled in with that probably would have smashed internal sales records against comparable books.
Yet no - they had to make bisexual furry characters instead. And now they are delisted. It's very frustrating. |
Not only that, but to downsize they cancelled and fired everyone (or almost everyone) that was working on original properties. All this week on Twitter the writers have been expressing their shock, anger and/or confusion of having their projects suddenly shut down.
To be honest, if IDW loses the Turtles and Sonic, that's a wrap. I do believe those two are the only IDW series people actually look forward to reading and buying month after month. Like Marvel pumps out 50 or so books a month. Can you imagine if people only cared about and bought the Daredevil and Black Panther books and only bought those two out of the entire line? If it weren't for Disney backing them, they'd be in deep **** too. |

Yup. And to think, I evaluated that company's status months ago and posted what I saw for the future and of course that was met with disdain. And now here we are - kill the messenger, but the savants here will believe the words of a now-defunct editor and a bunch of agenda-writers rather than the actual metrics. Same calls I made a couple years back about the acceleration of the downward part of the gaussian curve that is woke $#!( at Disney and Hollywood in general. But you know what's awesome? These people never learn and never look at their own behavior and psychology, which means regular people will win. Every time. And somewhere one of the savants here or on the discord read what I just wrote and are indeed frothing at the mouth instead of... what? Looking at themselves. Go broke, @$$holes. As broke as you need to in order to learn. |
IDW makes a lot of bad decisions lately.

This makes me really mad. The solicitation mentioned that it was even going to include "A Forgotten TMNT Adventure". For those who may not know, that was the Adventures short story from the Mirage Mini Comics set. Including such a deep cut as that, as well as the mini-series and stories from the TMNTA Specials, I actually had some hope that they may include the previously skipped over issues from the main series in this omnibus series as well. I really hope that it isn't canceled for good and that it gets resolicated at some point.
