TMNT #2. Preview and discussion
Preview here.

This issue started out a bit iffy due to Mike as a famous TV star but then got better as it went on. The artwork was really good. I can't tell if the Foot were wearing some sort of reflective/light based effects on their armor to blind their opponent or if it was just artistic aspects not meant to be anything. Mikey hitting Raph at the end was interesting.
Interested to see where it goes. Giving each Turtle a solo story means it's going to take a long time till the main plot kicks in. |
the end of this comic is like the fight of leo vs raph in the 2007 tmnt movie.
|
Got some strong Last Ronin vibes with the inner monologues.

I liked it just like the previous one, the art is good too.
However i'm not sure about a few things: 1- Mikey being world famous in movies. To me the TMNT work best if they aren't well known and need to sneak around the world and be a mysterious ninja force. 2- Mikey hitting Raph in the face, i mean i get it... kind of...? I dunno, felt a little forced to me. Can't wait for the Leo comic as he is my favourite of the 4 (Yes i know, i'm quite alone in this aren't i? lol) |
Well Raph said the Foot Clan would be coming for all the Turtles, but are we sure that's who attacked Mikey? These BRIGHT NINJAS looked different than those from issue #1, down to their gloves and weapons.
We know the Foot is supposed to be different under Karai -- "less murdery". So I'm just wondering if maybe there's something going on here where she and Hale are not actually working together, but rather in opposition, each with their own ninjas. |

I’m slowly getting caught up on these.
I… did not care for this. The art and colors were stunning and I’d love to see more from this team, and I didn’t mind Mikey’s characterization overall, but the concept of him being a movie star or whatever didn’t hit for me. I guess they were doing a meta thing with the TMNTs real world popularity, but it was goofy. Is Ninja crap particularly popular in Japan? That seemed a little offensive lol. I did enjoy Mikey’s inner turmoil around his brothers letting the family break up. I have my own personal issues around certain friend and family relationships deteriorating, so I liked that angle. Except I don’t really buy that Mikey would be foolish enough to actually swing on Raph while they’re being attacked by a large group of armed assassins. So far I’ve read everything of the new ongoing except #4. I’m leaning towards dropping this (again) unless #6 wows me. |
Aside form Raph, the others make no sense. Mikey start to hate his brothers and blame them abandon for him? Leo embark on a suicidal soul-searching? Should Donnie take more time to recuperate before try to search for his own way?

I just started reading the series and came here after seeing that the 13th issue for this series presold over 100,000 copies already. I don't know why a lot of you are being so over analytical in this thread, the turtles have always been about fun and fights. After the original IDW series got very complicated and convoluted I am excited to see more brother centric stories. Mikey being a super sentai type star fits his character perfectly and the diamond chucks got me hyped. Maybe I am easy to please but I am excited to see how this series will go.:tgrin:

I know this is just one comic shop, but my LCS ordered an absolute **** ton of #10 and they’re pretty much all still sitting there.
