Batman: Knightfall

According to the EIDR Registry, the animated adaptation of Batman's seminal 90s epic Knightfall is finally in the works

Way to strike while the iron is hot on that one...

Clearly works as an animated movie, but - yeah why now? I haven't checked out the last many DC animated movies though, but if this looks solid I might sit through it.

Has Crisis wrapped up? Was it solid?

I would've paid top dollar to see some or ANY kind of Knightfall movie 20, 25 years ago. Now? Who cares. And they'd probably just muck it up and include bisexual Tim Drake or Bruce banging Barbara again or something.

Speaking of the recent animated adaptations, did anyone else watch part 1 of the Watchmen animated movie? It's more accurate than the Snyder movie but it's kind of sterile, and I can't help but think it's only being made to pave the way for a Doomsday Clock adaptation.

I'd love to see how JMS (who adapted Watchmen for animation) fares with adapting Doomsday Clock, and whether or not he can salvage it.

Someday maybe I'll find a way to sit through them. And the Watchmen cartoon.....

Hmmm you never know. I remember Tim was the Robin at the time of Knightfall, and eh, they might slip in a reference or two that shows that this is the modern-day gay Robin. Maybe show Tim dating Bernard or something.

Maybe not?

Interesting. I never thought for a moment they'd visually go in the direction of Kelley Jones, who did most of the Knightfall covers. In fact, if you'd have told me that as a kid when I was collecting these I'd be pissed, as I rather disliked Kelley Jones' work back then. I appreciate it more now but it definitely wasn't for me at the time.

First animated DC flick I've been a little excited about for some time.

As a teenager I was obsessed with this youtube Knightfall trailer made in the BTAS style

This looks really good. It's probably going to lead to hangover once it wraps because of the inevitable wait for the other two parts to make to animation....

Andrew NDB 06-24-2026 10:54 AM

I'd hope they keep going with the "Big" stories that came after from that era. Stories like "Prodigal," "Cataclysm," "Legacy" (probably with parts of "Contagion" peppered into it as well as "Bane of the Demon"), and so on.

ZariusTwo 06-25-2026 12:23 AM

I'd like to see someone make sense of Tom King's run as an animated feature, it's a bit of a scattershot mess but there was a good story buried somewhere in there, "City of Bane" can be salvaged, and it has the perfect ending for a Batman elseworld take if you count Annual#2.

Wouldn't it just be "Knightfall", Knight's End" and "Knights' whatever it was called" from back in the day to complete the trilogy of sorts?

Yeah. So Knightfall would end with AzBats beating Bane but still seeming overall sane. KnightQuest would end with AzBats killing Abbatoir (though he didn't REALLY kill him) and Bruce getting his back healed (and hopefully they can find a way to do it that isn't Shondra Kinsolving's never before seen mutant healing powers), and KnightsEnd having Bruce get his nerve back and then fighting AzBats.

But they'll probably just call it Knightfall Part 1, 2 and 3.

I know Bane's plan was to release all the Arkham crazies so that Batman will wear himself ragged trying to re-capture them all so that he can attack at him at his lowest. I know we get to see a lot of the villains like the Joker, Scarecrow, Ivy and so forth.

I forgot if there any of the villains seen during the other two parts of the story. I'm assuming when Azrael takes over, there has to be at least some of the classic rogues around to find out (the hard way) that there was a new Batman in town? Did any of them show during Knight Quest and Knight's End?
