Disney's Live-Action 'Tangled'

Disney can't stop making these. Today, it was announced that a live-action remake of Tangled is in the works. It will be directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) with a script from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder).

I'm sure many people want Taylor Swift to play Rapunzel after she posed as the character for the Disney Dream Portrait Series in 2013.

It'll be Zendaya. Or the How to Train Your Dragon chick.

There was already a topic on this but I guess it didn’t have an official announcement yet.

Tangled is one of my favorite Disney movies and the tv series was great. So I’m definitely excited for it.

My picks who I think look the part. Haven’t seen all their stuff of course but I’m sure would do well.

McKenna Grace
Ella Purnell
Anya Taylor Joy

Make. New. Things. Thank you for nothing.

What is there to be excited about compared to a sequel where it would be more original and visually pleasing?

The cartoon series already did way more than a sequel could. It expanded a ton.

I like seeing stuff turned live action. That’s the novelty all live action adaptations. It’s not just Disney. Video Games, other cartoons, books etc...

And where you just know they'll find -- somehow -- things that were "problematic" and in need of fixing.

The film has been put on indefinite hold due to the box office failure of Snow White.

I wonder if they'll cast a black actress and call it Weave.

I'll see myself out.

Bluelightsaber 04-06-2025 07:39 PM

I bet my house that they will

Wildcat 04-06-2025 08:22 PM

Haven’t seen Snow White. Not because I’m against it or Rachel Zegler. I’ve never seen the animated version either. That’s probably surprising but just never got into. I’ll see both sometime.

Anyway Snow White is probably is not the best comparison. Makes me wonder if there’s another reason they’re putting it on hold.

I also want to know if they still plan on doing a Cruella sequel. I really liked that movie. Saw it awhile back on TV a few times. I remember it was reported that a lot of movies were kind of up in the air after people changed positions.

Teagan Croft (Titans) and Milo Mannheim (Zombies) have been cast as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider/Eugene.

Sorry for double posting, but Kathryn Hahn is in talks to play Mother Gothel! She's perfect for this part and was my top choice! :D

I'm salty that this is happening. Leave my Tangled franchise the hell alone.

How about remaking one of Disney's animated flops like The Black Cauldron? That can even have the potential of being a successful franchise since it's a series of books just ripe for adaption.

You answered your own question. Which is why Disney didn't rush right into a "Princess and the Frog" live-action movie despite that would've having made total sense (even over other live-action efforts like Little Mermaid and Snow White) given their modus operandi over the past decade.

Wow.... Teagen Croft actually works. Surprised they didn't cast Zendaya and called the movie 'Weave' instead.

ranger_scout 03-10-2026 01:56 PM

Some writers are worried Kathryn Hahn will be typecast after this because she usually plays similar characters to Mother Gothel, but I still think she's perfect for this part and many fans feel the same way.
