IDW Vol. 2 #23 preview/discussion

Oh, please... don't tell me that Karai will regret her actions in the next issue and decide to help the turtles.
https://img.ifunny.co/images/89413fb...a98c6473_1.jpg By the way, if I remember correctly, in The Untold Destiny of the Foot Clan comic, wasn't it Toshiro's ghost who gave her the information about the dragons and magic power? |

Toshiro's soul should have been erased in Untold Destiny of the Foot Clan, so there are only two explanations : 1. Plot hole 2. Karai wasn't talking to Toshiro's soul back then, she has been tricked by the Dragon from the very beginning |
You know, Baxter really could just streamline his process:

Next issue is the last of this arc, I wonder how the chinese writer can wrap it up and make it satisfying. At this point I'm confused what villains will stay dead and which won't. Like will Hun die again or will they keep him around? Seems kind of repetitive.

Yang did said he bring a Chinese mythological figure into #24. I wouldn't be surprised if he brought Chi You back. Or maybe it's Monkey King? In the Journey to the West, he crosses out both his name and the names of all the monkeys in his tribe from the Yama King's book, which free them from death. |

I didn't really have much to say after reading this one. I'm just ready to wrap this arc up.
This video pointed out a few problems I hadn't considered (Karai's undead Foot don't seem to be afflicted by "the hunger") and one that I talk about all the time (Splinter is offering ZERO insight into the situation and we still don't really understand the circumstances he returned under. How involved as Karai?) |
According to this, once these ghosts come to the land of the living, they need to absorb the yang (life force) from living people to sustain themselves. There are many similar examples in Hong Kong horror movies. As for why Shredder, Splinter, and Tang Shen were unaffected, maybe their situation is special or it is just a plot device. I guess Yang would simply ignore this plot hole.
|
I'm pretty sure it's because they came back from the afterlife already, isn't it?
|
Splinter killed plenty of people as Ujigami. Shredder came back under entirely different circumstances. Shen might be a plot hole though.

Splinter, Hamato Yoshi, Tang Shen and Cassandra Jones (1st resurrection) who used the Ujigami magic portal didn't have green eyes and the hunger thing. It only happens when people are resurrected with Stockman's version of the portal. There is a logic, even if we can find it weird for other reasons |
Also at least they showed that with examples like Casey's mother trying to strangle April, or that other mutant killing an innocent man and then regretting it when he came back to life...is that all these spirits aren't quite "themselves." It allows the dead to act out of character due to the hunger they're feeling to restore to life.
|
At least after this event, Splinter and Tang Shen had no reason to stay, but in fact, they stayed until christmas. It was unclear whether they would return to the underworld after christmas.

Curious about the sales on this run. Book has disappeared from my periphery and they seemed to pick a new team for the book pretty quickly. Tried a couple issues and it didn’t work for me but I have some optimism for Rosenberg’s upcoming run.

Okay, so it seems Splinter is still in #26, and he's been kidnapped.... again. |
Quote:
Kidnapping makes sense. Keeps him in the story, but he’s not the main focus. Turtles go looking for him for the next million issues leading to a showdown and eventually bringing him back. I’m not overly feeling this “afterlife” story. It’s cool they brought back Tang Shen, but overall every issue just ends with some previous characters there coming back from the afterlife. Gets redundant after a while |
