I don't recall seeing a thread for this and a search came up empty...

I was entirely unaware of this forthcoming comic series from Tom Waltz and Ben Bishop until a news story popped up this week. Seems to have been announced and featured at comiccons a few months ago.

I just bought the Ashcan via ebay to see if it is going to be any good or not.

I guess that explains why Sakai is writing the First Ronin comic, a switch writing experiment between him and Waltz?

Huh. That’s kind of neat.

Usagi is pretty much getting an ending in case Stan Sakai dies before the series concluded. Between this and Senso we have an ending. (And Space Usagi is already hundreds of years in the future anyway)

This isn’t an ending for Usagi and won’t be canon. It is the Roninverse version of Usagi.

I heard Tom Waltz say on a podcast that the TLR Hamato emblem purposely looks like Usagi’s mon that he wears on his shirt. We’ll see what significance that holds.

But what does that even mean? Usagi from an alternate dimension of TMNT that is the Ronin-verse and its own parallel Usagi-verse?

I'm legitimately confused about this whole thing and how/why it could connect to Last Ronin.

Right. The same way it is for FW Usagi, 4kids Usagi and 2012 Usagi. I guess the only outlier would be the IDW turtles meet the same Usagi that the Mirage turtles know.
