unarmored don and Leo Review
I went to Target today hoping to get the new Hulk Classics or marvel legends V figures. Unfortuantely they didn't have any. But I did find alot of the fightin gear turtles. I decided that I was not going to get these when I saw them at offthecard.com but those pictures just didn't do them justice. When I saw them in person for the second time I said "hey these aren't bad." So I picked Leonardo and Donatello because they are my favs.
http://home.comcast.net/~krunner03/pic01.jpg One thing I didn't like about the figures at first were their goofy faces. Its like they are all taking on that silly "mikey persona" that we love so much. Despite this, I don't think it takes away from the figure and ive actually come to like the head sculpts a little bit better now. http://home.comcast.net/~krunner03/pics02.jpg Each figure has 25 POA. I found most of it to be useless because of the limited movement of the hips which made different poses while standing the figure very difficult. But it doesn't take away from the play value. Kids just want something that they can play around with anyway. I don' think they want to put the figure into cool poses and stare at them for hours. All of the figures also have their junkyard weapons as well as their regular weapons. As you can see I took the armor off of my figures and posed them with their regular weapons. I think they look better without the junkyard armor. One of the cool things about these figures is that they can hold different weapons and look right holding them since their arms are sculpted differently. Leo can hold the staff and Don and can hold Leo's Katannas. http://home.comcast.net/~krunner03/pics03.jpg Ok one more thing I must say. I hate articulation in the hands! :goofygri: Even if its on my marvel legends figures I do not like it because it makes holding weapons very difficult in my opinion. Unfortunately this has been included in these figures. http://home.comcast.net/~krunner03/pic04.jpg I found that don's staff kept slipping out of his hand. But I got it to stay put. Its no biggie. Other than that, these are some excellent figures and I hope playmates keeps making good turtle variants. |
I could have gotten 2 of those today... but instead I got a Mutations one. Gotta love free ooze ;).
They do look really nice in person... and I really didn't notice the funny head sculpts in the store. Maybe after the Foot Gunner I'll pick one of these guys up. |
and i thought the best part about the figures where the faces on them.
|
Yea, I really like the faces. They don's seem goofy to me at all, it seems more of a badass look.
|
Wow thanks for that, they look really cool. I'm definitely getting a Raph coz he still has his gritted teeth expression and his new sai daggers look even cooler!
|
I agree that these are some of the best new toys. The armors fun sometimes, but it's the figures themeselves that are really great. :)
|
I bought all four a couple weeks ago, I like Mikeys expression and Raphs the most. Mikey's is like the original with a little more detail and just looks really cool. I didnt really like dons head, the bottom looks to big and the top seems even smaller then it should be but I think it might have had something to do with how they mad the helment for him or the style. It looks better with the helment on imo. Any way they are a cool set.

lol, nice pics... but one thing.
You got the weapons backwards... :goofygri: *wonders if anyone else noticed* |

No, we can just read :P |
I like these figures better than the first series for some reason. I don't mind the faces or hand articulation at all. I always thought Don's facial sculpt looked odd for some reason. Leo would have to be favorite in of the line.
|
I just picked up all four fighting gear turtles today and well... I really don't like the Don and Leo faces right now. The Raph one is awesome and Mikey's is too similar to his original one. With that aside, the weapons are nice and I like the increased articulation. I still wish they would make a set that was like the Marvel Legends series. Thirty plus points of articulation? *drools*
Also, what's with Leo getting essentially samurai armor while everyone else gets junk? Leo also got three more pieces of armor. Mikey got a ROAD CONE. |
i forgot to mention this. the heads pop off and on.
why didn't you make interchangable heads playmates??? :P oh well, still good figures. |
