MOC or MOS?

For those like to display their collections, or those who simply care about their turtles, which do you prefer/have?

Mint on Card - or - Mint on Shelf?

Personally, I don't see the point in spending money on a toy if you don't get to crack open the box and waft in the smell of fresh plastic. But I can see the bonus (particularly long term) of keeping them nice and untouched. Me, I'm not in it for any future money, just the joy of collecting turtles!

Just curious to see what people think. ;)

It's not worth it if you can't play with them a little...heh

Definantly opened.

bufo 03-02-2004 02:28 AM

they look so cool posed on my top shelve, definantly opened yeah

I open up the first set I get, then if I see figs on sale, and on a decent card, then I'll pick it up and keep it MOSC.

Although, I do keep a lot of Transformer stuff MOSC, mostly the Takara stuff

MrPliggins 03-02-2004 04:56 AM

When I was younger I opened all the figures and played with them. For some reason I kept the cardboard backs..I think cuz I liked the art. Later I got most of them again and kept them MOC.

I got most of my older toys opened, some are steal sealled, The new toys are all still sealed, the ones i really like, i buy a second set to open.

Jester 03-02-2004 09:44 AM

I'm a geek...i still buy the figs to play....and i'm 19.....but i do have some figs mOC...the 4 turtles from 89 in the 98 relaunch box....probably not worth much...but look good hanging from nails in my wall

cqb101 03-02-2004 10:47 AM

I open all of the new figs but if I get a vintage one MOC, it's staying that way.

LAXtitan99 03-02-2004 01:03 PM

I keep all my new turtle stuff sealed - MOC. Though I am thinking of aquiring a second set for my fav turtles to open.

When I was a kid I openned all the toys and played with them.

Kid Icarus 03-02-2004 08:35 PM

I open 'em, but I keep that little info thing on the cards :P . I like to actually see the figures, and be able to move them around.

This is something I can never decide upon, myself. Right now, all my TMNT toys are still in their boxes... they just look so nice in them. :) But, yeah, a part of me wants to open them so bad. I know I'll never sell them or anything, and I keep telling myself "why pay for them and not play with them"... but for right now, they're still in the box.

I have a feeling, however, that one day I'm just gonna flip and rip them all open.

Kameko 03-02-2004 09:13 PM

I open pretty much everything I get. In my opinion, there's just no fun in it if you can't play (in my case, playing means decided just how to display them) with them and enjoy them. I do, however, Open things as carefully as I can and keep all the packaging.

Although if I ever found a vintage item MIB, you can bet your hat I'd leave it in the package.

I did the same thing. I never open any new figures. They are worth so much in value to me, not just a monetary value. I want them to be perfect. Also, I am kind of hoping that there is an error in one of the figures like a different form of a figure, ie Ray Fillet or April O'Neil.

Of course, if I see a loose figure at Goodwill, I will buy it and play with it. I remember finding Tracker within a few days of me buying it in retail stores.

Mint on shelf of course.

Chances are you're not going to sell them anytime in the future, so why not rip the package apart and put them in random places around your room, like I do?

In fact, I took some poster putty and stuck the four turtles on top of my computer monitor. It's more fun to be able to physically mess with them.

Edit: For a while I was going to leave them all in the box, and even buy double sets for stuff I wanted to open. Then I realized how stupid and expensive that would be, so I got to ripping. :-P Same thing with my Pokemon toys. I was going to leave them MOC too...and in retrospect, I should have...but hell, can't change that now! :P

I know, I'm never goin to sell mine. I know that... *sigh* I'm telling you, pretty soon I'm gonna be sitting on the floor in a pile of plastic and cardboard...

raphael90 03-02-2004 11:51 PM

I display my figs on the shelf...personally it would be no fun if I couldn't play with the figure for a bit, put weapons in his hands and position him. Some I buy used so MOC isn't an option anyhow. It still did pain me to open the ones I got MOC because I knew hoe rare they were...but in the long run it doesn't matter really.

Starscream 03-03-2004 10:52 AM

I open all of them now. I used to buy two of each toy one to keep on card and the other to open but I stopped that after TNBA and BW Transmetals. It'd be too expensive with all the lines I collect.

HorseTechie 03-03-2004 11:53 AM

Yeah.. it does get expensive to have one to play with and one to colect. I usually just take the ones I like the most out for play/display, and the so-so ones will be left MOC. I don't buy everything that comes out though... just those I really like, and would have collector's value. :D

Kali 03-03-2004 02:21 PM

I've opened almost all the toys I've gotten. I haven't opened the Fighting Gear Turtles I got, only because there's no place to set them up. When I get a place for my Lair, I'll set them up in there.

But I do try and keep the packing in as good a shape as possible. I don't take the plastic all the way off, and I keep all the tape and pieces. This is in case I do have to sell them at one point, I can at least put them up as having a good condition card.

Utrom 03-03-2004 02:34 PM

I went with Mint-on-shelf; even when I try to keep something MOC, I always end up opening it because I can't stand not being able to play with it! Anyway, a very interesting poll.
