Foot Fire Mystic's staff warping under its own weight.

I've had my Foot Fire Mystic for a few days and I just noticed that the staff in his hand has been slowly warping under the weight of the "fire" piece that slides onto it. Anyone else experiencing this?

tmntman 03-28-2004 04:11 PM

Not yet, but it is still cool here. (we haven't had steady temperatures above 60 degrees yet.) I'm sure as it warms up everyone will face the same issue.

TheRATKING 03-28-2004 04:31 PM

dude that sucks... im just glad i leave them on the card cuz thats just not cool

jestergoblin 03-28-2004 05:06 PM

they changed the plastic used in weapons. Compare the bo that the first released Don has with the one that came with fighting gear. There's a HUGE difference.

Well, looks like Playmates is trying to save money again, this time buy cutting back quality.

Oh well, the mystic's were some of the figs i was gonna pass on. now i'm glad i decided to do that.

GreatTuraga 03-28-2004 05:58 PM

Warping? Please explain.

Y2Bogus 03-28-2004 06:03 PM

Well, it started out as a straight staff. But after a few days I noticed the "fire" piece that slides ofer the top of the staff, has been weighing it down and it's caused the staff to bend slightly. I'm guessing after some more time it will worsen, so I just removed the "fire" piece.

That really sucks if they are using cheaper plastic/materials.

Splinter 03-28-2004 06:44 PM

They have to use that sort of plastic, due to child safety laws.

That's right, the softter kind used for the new weapons are actually more expensive.

But, yeah, I've had that two, but I kinda like it because he's the Fire Foot Mystic and it looks like his heat is causing the staff to melt...... well, I think it's cool.

[Playmates Exec]It's an added feature! Fire Mystic is so hot, his staff has warped do to the heat he generates.[/Playmates Exec]

hehe. :)

Sometimes Playmates gets excused for too much around here. It wouldn't hurt to b**** about things to them every now and then. It's constructive criticism, and you might actually enjoy your figures morein the future. I know I'm gonna b**** when I see this Baxter Stockman head on spiderlegs. Then we'll be hearing, "At least we have a Baxter Stockman figure." It's a freakin' HEAD ON SPIDERLEGS! "But they need to save money." They could have saved a bunch of money, not by switching to Geico, but by NOT making mutations figures. When they made those they thought they were saving money too, but it just ends up being a waste.

I haven't had any problems with my Foot Fire Mystic.

You might be able to fit it. Not sure what kind of plastic they used but there's a method for fixing bent weapons. I tried it to fit some vintage MOTU staffs and it works well. Boil some water, and place the weapon in the water until it returns to it's normal shape. Here's the website with the guide.

a little clarifacation, you want to use the boiling water, or better yet, just the steam to warm the part and make it more flexible. You then need to adjust its shape by hand (thus dropping the part into the boiling water is a somewhat bad idea) When it is back to the correct shape emerse it in cold water to cool it off and make the plastic stiff again.

That works, I've had to do that for some weapons from other lines(a lot of the Lord of the Rings figures swords suffer from being bent). The child safety laws require this flimsy yet more expensive plastic. Playmates isn't saving any money, they're required by law to make the weapons like that.

I haven't had any issues with the Fire Foot Mystic's staff, at least not yet.

jestergoblin 03-29-2004 02:31 PM

Just give it a few days and it will..

Kali 03-29-2004 03:38 PM

I just checked mine, and I noticed no "out of the norm" warping. Maybe that's because my Mystic is holding his staff up near the top, just under where the blade/fire is. I've had mine for several weeks, too.

Why? What's the problem with a stillfer plastic? IOs someone going to poke their eyes out?... and I am not saying it as a joke...

I hate how the little runts who don't know the propper way to play with toys ruin it for everyone else... but I guess it's allright if we actually get these things...

Triceraton 03-29-2004 06:21 PM

I don't understand why they're forced to use the softer plastic either. I don't think any of us had problems with the original TMNT line, and that had all those little sharp plastic pieces that would get stuck on the weapons after taking them off the plastic weapon tree. I guess it just shows how much things have changed over the years.

Maybe, but I've had it open for two weeks now, and nothing's happened yet. I have him holding it close to the top, so there's more support for the heavy end. It looks good, and greatly reduces the chance of warping. It'd be nice to have more posing options with him, but there's not much to do with the articulation anyway. I really hope the other Mystics don't come out as just repaints of this unposeable figure, but I'm sure they will. :|
