Turtle food...but not pizza

I just remembered this when my mom mentioned to me the pigs-in-a-blanket we have in the refrigerator. It was a certain food item slapped with the TMNT label on it. Believe it or not, it had nothing to do with pizza, though it did have meat in it.

Well, in that first paragraph, I pretty much gave the answer away in the first sentence. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, back in the early to mid 1990s I caught sight of TMNT labeled pigs-in-a-blanket. However, I don't think they were the traditional type. These were corn dogish looking things, only instead of hot dogs, they were sausage. Pretty ideal for breakfast, if you ask me.

The only thing that made them TMNT, besides the label, was the fact that the sticks had faces and names of the turtles on them, painted in their respective colors (e.g. orange for Michelangelo etc.).

Odd, eh? Just thought I'd share that in case anybody else knows what I'm talking about.

Woah... I've heard of pizza, cereal, and fruit chews, but never TMNT pigs-in-a-blanket. That's amazing. It's hard to believe how big they were in the early 90s.

Kingkapong 09-16-2002 02:53 PM

wow. never heard of that.

DarthRaphael 09-16-2002 09:43 PM

There used to be ice-cream bars of the TMNT. They had gumballs for eyes.

azure turtle 09-17-2002 01:59 AM

Oh yeah!! I almost forgot about the TMNT ice cream! I liked those... A little too sweet, but it was still tasty.

DarthRaphael 09-17-2002 04:10 AM

...and TMNT cereal. It was like Chex with TMNT marshmallows.

I used to like that cereal. :trazz:

"Used to be ice cream bars"?!? Forget used to be, they're still around! I swear, I can still buy them off the neighborhood ice cream truck!

azure turtle 09-17-2002 01:37 PM

Are you serious?!?! Argh!! I've gotta chase down an ice cream truck one of these days. But I haven't done that in about nine years. It'd be pretty sad to see me chasing the truck along with a buncha youngens. :goofygri:

snicker* A big blue turtle plowing through hordes of kids trying to get some ice cream...

Kali 09-17-2002 07:56 PM

LOL! Well, my siblings were getting the ice cream, not me. They just brought it to me as a surprise. Boy, was I surprised! It was cool though, I loved the neat pic of TNM Raph on the wrapper.

Man, I love those TMNT ice cream ice cream bars! The ice cream man stops at the middle school everyday, and I stop by occasionally to pick up my little brother. It's quite convienant!

The Ice Cream truck music rocks.

Haha... I'd probably get sued if I knocked over so many kids. :goofygri: Still, I'd like to get one of those TMNT ice cream bars, just for old times sake.

There were Hostess (sp) cream cakes and pies too. I think it was around the time of the second movie, 'cause you were supposed to get a free sticker card from the movie with each one. The kids around where I used to live went crazy for them, because the store was across the street.

:P

azure turtle 09-19-2002 01:52 PM

Dude!!! I remember those! They had green filling, right? It was supposed to be mutagen or something. I bought one a long time ago, and I still have the Michelangelo sticker that came with it. I remember that the mutagen pie was way too sweet, though. A shame... I would've liked to get the other three stickers.

spooie redux 09-20-2002 06:36 AM

Yup... green filling. :P

heintzvelvet 09-20-2002 09:39 AM

The one weird thing that I know that was made that you guys haven't mentioned, was Pork Rinds. TMNT Pork Rinds... I guess maybe because in the first movie When Leo and Raph get into their little squabble, Don and Mike are eating Pork Rinds.
Pork Rinds are Sick! Crusty pig Fat! Bleh! :dead:

I doubt that the ice cream truck in my neighbourhood still has those! One can wish though!

Oh, I work at Tim Hortons, and the other day, while working I was refill some muffin Cups, and had to move a couple boxes, and thee was a box marked Turtles, so I opened it! It was full of little TMNT Turtle heads! You know those hard things that go on top of cupcakes and stuff. THe one thing is that this Tim Hortons has only been open for 3 years. Must've gotten them somewhere else!

azure turtle 09-20-2002 02:16 PM

TMNT pork rinds?!! Dude, that's freaky... The guys in green were everywhere.

Ninja Turtles Cartoon Fan 09-20-2002 05:31 PM

Was that Ninja Turtles cereal any good? I always wanted to get myself a box of that. But my parents would never go for it. It was always Cheerios or Rice Krispies or something.

I think there are still sealed boxes of Ninja Turtles cereal floating around on eBay somewhere. Probably wouldn't taste very good now, though. Can you imagine how hard 12-year old cereal would be? And I thought Grape-Nuts were hard! :o

azure turtle 09-21-2002 02:36 AM

Never tried the cereal. Anything with marshmellows is a big "no no" for me. I think they make the cereal sickly sweet. :dead:

I saw a box of sealed cereal on ebay, too (a few months ago, actually)! I don't even wanna imagine how the cereal would taste like. I kep laughing at the seller's warning: "Do NOT eat this cereal! It is for display purposes only!" LOL!!
