TMNT in Online Encyclopedia
 

I have been working on the Wikipedia Project - which is a free online encyclopedia started in January 2001 and which now contains over 275,000 article in the English Language and over 500,000 in 50 other languages.

This encyclopedia is unique in that users of this encyclopedia also serve as its editors. You can create new articles and edit existing ones. And there is an article on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!!! :D

I am providing the link so you can look over the article and maybe even consider serving as an editor for it and for other subjects of interest. New artices related to the Turtles also need to be created - such as biographies for Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.

Wiki's are awesome projects; thanks for the link. It was quite an enjoyable read. If I have any free time in the near future, I'd love to contribute to the editing process =)

To be honest...it's pretty stupid to leave an encylopedia open for ANYONE to edit...

Actually I have found after reviewing hundreds of articles that it works - I would estimate that most articles have an accuracy rate of better than 95%.

You will find that people pick articles to edit and review as their babies and guard them religiously. If inaccurate or overly biased edits are made, they are very quickly corrected.

There are problems of course - the article on President Clinton has been closed to editing in the past because of vehement disagreements.

But the checks and balances in place seem to insure reasonably accurate information that provides an invaluable free resource for all.

Exactly. It's similar to collaborative filtering, which generally ensures that whatever you're reading is relevant to you because it was written by people like you. Plus, with Wikis, people tend to edit what they are most interested in and most familiar with. This is great because people who are really interested in something tend to know way more about it than a random editor who's writing about it because he's/she's being paid to.

There will always be the threat of morons who attempt to edit something incorrectly for the fun of it. I'd imagine that the Wiki's registration process and constant monitoring by the community safeguard against this, though.

Yeah, it's hard to stay objective about politics...

some of u mirage buffs need to do a comic specific edit.....since the mirage comic is mentioned (sometimes to much) in oter places, like the 90's toon....and the toon to much in the general info page.
