If Disney Buys TMNT from Viacom?

What would happen? Would it be the worst or the best thing to happen to the franchise? I like to believe it would be the latter. Heck it be my dream come true if that happened. Okay maybe no that far but still a great thing. People say it would ruin the franchise but how so? Honestly to me the only people who would get ma of this purchase is the so called "hardcore" fans o TMNT. What do you think?

they already got control over Marvel and Star Wars leave tmnt alone Nickelodeon seem to be doing great with the license so this is a horrible idea nobody wants an animated series on Disney xd (Shudders)

I would like a TMNT in the fashion of KickAss. If Disney got it, I don't see that ever, ever happening, and they tend to be a company, that once they get the rights to something, say it doesn't do well, then instead of selling it off, they just lock it up into their vault.

I'm just tired of the TMNT being groomed for just the very young audience, I wish we got someone to appeal to a more broader audience.

But sometimes, Disney does surprise.

As much as I would LOVE to see this, I have high doubts any company would ever consider limiting the TMNT audience when it's been such a big draw for kids. Maybe we could get a few straight to DVD specials like Warner have done with things like Batman Year One and TDK Returns.

Me too. TMNT used to have Mirage, now it's been kiddified to excess. I hate it when stuff for grownups gets allocated as being 'for kids,' and never removed from that ghetto (for fear of the soccer moms.) What's going to be left for the adults and older teens anymore?

That's the crux of the problem right there. America practically worships it's kids, and holds them on a pedestal to the exclusion of other people. TMNT should not be an exclusive kiddy franchise, especially as it didn't start out as being meant for kids. People are so afraid of taking something back from the soccer mom brigade that it's like once a franchise gets dubbed for kiddies, it stays like that forever because no-one wants to rock the boat.

Not everything should be for kids. Making kids seem like these special little angels who should always be catered to above everyone else just breeds entitlement in the parent (and often, the child.) Restaurants have started banning little kids because of this entitled mentality in parents, and it's about time other companies did too. And these restaurants didn't lose business, it actually got better!

I wouldn't trust Disney with TMNT

Disney will ruin it and probably have a show for under 5 year olds.

For the last 20 years The Gargoyles fandom have been fighting tooth and nail with Disney to bring back Gargoyles. The cartoon ended in 96, we fought to get Gargoyles back and we did in 2006 with the comics (we also got the Bad Guys spin off comic) but it only lasted 12 issues because Disney wanted more money from SLG to renew the licence. We are still trying to fight with Disney to bring Gargoyles back. We would love a movie but it's not happening. Disney are a bunch of brain dead people who only care about money and ignore fans

I hate to see it happen to the TMNT fandom.

As I suggested in another thread...

They will bring Venus back, and they will make her a princess. Do we really want that. I mean no insult to Venus or her fans, but look... the princess crap being applied, in whatever way Disney could figure out, is inevitable.

I would far greater rather that Nick use it's ties with Universal to do awesome TMNT stuff at THAT park instead. (Including of course recreation of the lairs.)

On that note/speaking of, I think Nick also understands that there is an adult fanbase, even if not addressed too much. I'm not sure Disney would ever understand at all.

you can blame the 80's cartoon for the whole Pizza obsessed and stupid thing. At least the 2003/Nick cartoons tried to bring some darkness back to them.

They didn't turn Gamora into a Princess. Watch GOTG first before jumping to conclusions.

Even if they did do a kids line, so what? I think they're beginning to realize the adult market is now where the money is. Kids aren't buying Toys like the used to, but the 30 year olds are. That's the new demo.

What exactly is the precedent for this mindset? Black Widow isn't a Disney princess. Neither is Pepper Potts or any other Marvel leading lady.

But sure, keep pretending Disney only makes media for five year olds.

The Marvel films are still great, it's not been Disney-fied. Disney might own it but that's it.
Kinda like when they did Roger Rabbit under Touchstone's name, but the content hasn't been kiddified, it's mature/adult oriented as hell.

So I'm not worried. If Disney wants it and Viacom hands it over? Take it.

I would like Viacom to buy Gargoyles from Disney (but if they do a Gargoyles movie, I don't want Michale Bay getting his hands on it) at least they do something with it. IDW could do the comics and could have a TMNT/Gargoyle cross over.

Tell me about Gargoyles. I can't get into specifics, but let me just say I knew people who knew people who had some serious money (they are billionaires) and were fans of that cartoon, and had the money and connections to make a live action Gargoyles. This would have looked sick, and they were already drafting stuff with Weta, but in the end, Disney refused to even see the people to work out negotiations. They didn't even want to talk about it. Their plan was just to share distribution profits, the unspecified company itself would have covered all production costs, but again, Disney ceos didn't even want to meet. This is one of the reasons why I am apprehensive of Disney buying out TMNT. All of this took place around 2004, and the company's main headquarters was in Miami, Florida.
