Reimagine Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as drastically as you can.

Some franchises can have installments so radically different from each other you'd never suspect they were connected at all. I find such franchises to be fascinating, there's always something fresh to experience.

Now it got me thinking, what if TMNT was like that? Yeah sure, the Fred Wolf cartoon had little to do with the comics but Splinter, Shredder, Baxter, April, Casey, the Rat King and Leatherhead were there (albeit somewhat altered), the setting was the same, the basic idea was intact for the first season at least.

I'm talking about making it really different, you don't have to use the same characters (not even the Turtles), the same setting, the same concepts or even the same basic idea as previously established. All you have to keep is the title "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and it has to make sense somehow, that's it.

The most recent movie was as different from the original concept as you could imagine?

Also, the Nick show isn't what I would call "drastically" different from other TMNT content.

Yeah that too, obviously both of them have rather notable differences from the other material, but it's pretty clear niether of them are trying to be particularly different from TMNT as a whole.

To contribute and not just nitpick, I will give my own reimagining:

The brothers start off as humans. The marital arts run deep in the veins of their family. They are highly trained and lethal.

When exposed to the mutagen via a chemical plant leak, they mutate. (The plant was dumping failed chemical experiments into nearby waterways and our heroes came in contact with it while fishing and catching turtles to keep as pets.)

At first the boys are mortified with their present states, shun the world and go into hiding in the near by woods. There they clamor around in their cumbersome clunky bodies, barely able to function. Ala:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Metamorphosis

Eventually they decide that they will not just waste away in the woods, but rather they resume their training while becoming ever so acclimated to their new bodies.

Through this the boys find strength in what they once considered weakness (strong shells for protection, claws and strong beaks for weapons, etc.)

After many months of training in the woods. The boys emerge ready for a life of crime fighting.

I wouldn't say this is terribly drastic, but it's art & a concept I came up with last year that is quite unique compared to what we've had (most similar to Souls Winter, probably). http://powderakacaseyjones.deviantar...ruzu-462952538

HA!

As a fic exercise my friends and I tried to integrate diverse canons into the Harry Potter universe.

Raph, Mike, Leo, and Don were four muggleborn wizards cast out of their families as small children because their magic made them uncontrollable to muggle familes. Wards of the state, they finally found their way to a magical half-way house where a newly immigrated Tang Shen befriended them...and eventually convinced her husband, Hamato Yoshi to adopt them.

Unbeknownst to the kids, Shen and Yoshi were on the run from The Foot, a Death Eater clan from Japan after the murder of the leader's oldest son: Oroku Nagi.

The plot then followed the main story arc of the Mirage books, with Splinter and Shen being unregistered animagi, and the boys getting stuck midway through human and turtle by trying to learn the skill themselves.

But this all happens long after Shen dies, Leo tries to avenge her death on his own at Christmas, Splinter goes into hiding, with the guys ending up at a magical boarding school in England...because of reasons.

It was a lot of fun to write, because of its utter ridiculousness.

Four teenage girls finds enchanted gems that stores the souls of four Kappa warriors. Unlocking the gems secrets with the help of their Martial Arts Sensei Hamato Yoshi, the girls transforms into four humanoid turtles. When handling a group of thugs they are mistaken as guys, hence giving themselves the names of their favorite renesance artist.

Four martial artists who are down on their luck decide to dress up in turtle costumes and clean up NYC ninja style. Shredder's a businessman by day and runs a criminal organization behind the scenes. His little brother is a cop in NYC and attempts to bring his sibling to justice. Alan Vonkrang is some serial killer who collects the brains of his victims. yada yada yada This is TMNT in the real world! No mutagen or mutations. It's a totally new dark and gritty spin which isn't really new at all, but everyone else is doing it with reboots so why not? haha Couldn't resist going down this road. Ninja Turtles Rebirth or something. That's about alls I got with allergies dogging me down at the moment. Fox would probably eat it up.

Drastically eh...

Five years into World War III, drones and mechanised combat units have dominated the battlefield. What they lack in creative strategy they make up for with numbers and uncaring efficiency. Mankind's last hope may well be an experimental program developed in a secrete installation behind the Asian front.

A new generation of advance battle tanks have been created with anti-mech capabilities specifically in mind. They are faster, more agile, and better protected than any previous generation of armoured vehicle, and learning from humanities mistakes, they are not autonomous.

Our future depends on the edge these tanks will have over fully automated combat units. An edge provided by the instincts of specially bread, and rigorously trained operators, who will command the vehicles through direct neurological control.

Humanity is rapidly loosing the war, and in a last ditch effort to turn the tide, the tanks, code name Turtles, are deployed before the genetically engineered teenage operators have reached full maturity. They will have to rely on their superior instincts, and reflexes gained from their incomplete ninja training.

Crossover fanart of any kind can be a lot of fun and I've seen and drawn a few of those pictures on more than one occasion.

Most drastic reimagining I can think of? Easy- This:

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1079568...me-Other-World

Ever wonder what would happen if Splinter hadn't raised the boys as noble warriors? What if Shredder wasn't the evil villain we've grown to know, but a lone crusader against his cruel and vicious former mentor? The man once named Hamato Yoshi has raised four mutants as his own assassins, and only one man can defend the city against them- Oroku Saki.

I've twisted the TMNT lore around, into a bit of a "reverse world" kind of universe where the good guys aren't who one would expect. The boys in THIS world are not very nice. I'm enjoying working with a much darker version of them, especially Leo and Mikey- two completely opposite personalities, but both very damaged. Splinter's one very BAD father in this one..... It's a bit different for me, doing something so dark and yes, tragic in a twisted sort of way.

To be fair, April's acceptance isn't entirely her own idea, and I will be getting into some of the reasons behind it in more depth soon. The boys aren't the only ones in her life who are bad people, either. For anyone familiar with the original /mirage comics, Casey wasn't especially nice or a good influence all the time (he was something of a drunk womanizing bum) so it isn't much of a stretch to make him even worse.

I really took a look at all the characters and tried to figure out ways to switch their roles without changing their personalities TOO much- like for instance, Mikey is still "playful", but his idea of fun is rather twisted. Donnie is still the "geeky one", but in a very creepy stalker-ish way. Krang will still be his usual caustic self, and Baxter will still be the cowardly sycophant to Shredder, and still a bit mentally unbalanced as well- he'll just be working for a good cause this time around. As for Splinter, I have to say he's turning into a real monster in this, which is probably very counter to what most people who are familiar with him will remember. That was sort of the point, though, since this IS an "evil" version of them all.

Hamato Yoshi is a trainer who captures 4 Ninja Turtles in his "Capsule balls" and uses them to do battle against the evil Shredder and his Foot Ninja.

All the various other animal mutants in the series can be captured as well to complete the "Turtle Dex" and send them out in battle. Shredder captures a Bebop and Rocksteady to do battle.
