Question Why was it always "another dimension?"

So I've been re-watching all the OT this week, and virtually every occasion that an alien race appears, they are always referred to as being from "another dimension".
Why was this? What made the creators of the series think that no other life could exist in our own vast and unexplored universe?

Why do different dimensions pretty much consist of one planet/race/location?

Pretty much the only time we ever hear about different alien races co-existing in the same universe is in Dimension X. There's the Neutrinos, Krang's race, and a bunch more as seen in Dimension X Story when Vernon finds himself in the fight club.

Note: I haven't got past season 4 yet (and that's after watching 87 episodes straight!!), so if anything happens later on contrary to all this, please let me know below!

Normal space is probably too far to travel through with their technology so they're from other dimensions.

However I'm pretty sure many aliens were from outer space rather than Dimension X. The Triceratons weren't from Dimension X for example.

Lord Dregg said he's warlord of the 7 galaxies. His minions Medusa and Sleezebug are from the other side of the galaxy, which I assume is the Milky Way.

Wasn't Erik (Irk) from Menace Maestro Please from another planet in our universe? And what about the Polarisoids and the aliens from Invasion of the Turtle Snatchers?

Snatches

The home planet of the extraterrestrials in "Invasion of the Turtle Snatchers" orbits Antares, which just as the Sun is located within the Milky Way Galaxy. But the little kid is still a kid after thousands of (Earth?) years? Childhood and life must last long on that planet.

Or maybe the planet orbits Antares superfast, and they count time in their own years....

Mr. Ogg was from Dimension Z, perhaps indicating that there was a dimension Y that was unannounced! But the one race/planet/dimension unknown was an outgrowth of the science fiction of the 1950s and 60s in which the writers grew up in. Remember that this is a kids' show, and having too complex of a universe in which every dimension was in a parallel universe. That said, the use of portals enable swift travel into these other dimensions. But the point is that only Dimension X was designed to be "special" with multiple planets, asteroids, and alien races to give it top billing, though I wouldn't have minded some foreign dimensions with two races to show the conflicts outside of the main dimensions.

The name Dimension X probably originates from a US early 1950's radio drama show.

Oh, I recall having wondered for years over how the TMNT writers came up with the term "Dimension X", when finding this around 2004.
